new to me computer: dell optiplex 3010 with 4gb ram, onboard graphics, fresh win10 install.
what setting need to be set in daz 4.12 so it will play nice with win10.
here are / is issue(s) - there is a time lag in my current setup.
if I use the upper right cube to twist the scene there is a lag before the action is started.
use the mouse wheel to move in / out - same thing a lag.
go to close program - same thing lag before the x turns red.
computer has been Defragment to see if that would help - no.
no lag issue with the new blender [going to have to relearn it, they changed the gui]. including closing the program. go to x, x turns red right a way.
all pointers appreciated. thanks

What are the rest of your system specs? If you have an Intel GPU on the CPU and a stand-alone nVidia or AMD GPU make sure DS is set to use the latter (for nVidia, it's in the nVidia Control Panel which you can launch from a right-click on the desktop).
[At least] Doubling your RAM would be a good start. Bumping to 16 would be even better.
Windows 10 (64 bit) requires 2GB RAM minimum, leaving 2 GB for DS and any other open apps.
4.12 requires 2GB min (3+ recommended), but let's be real: DS may load in 2GB, but it ain't gonna run acceptably once you start adding content and blow through the remaining RAM.

my is 3.2ghz not 3.3.
Intel HD Graphics 2500
3rd Gen Intel Core i5-3470 Pro cessor (Quad Core, 6MB, 3.20GH z w/HD2500 Graphics), Dell Opt iPlex 3010
PROCESSOR, IVB, I5-3470, 3.2, 4C, N0, L
8gb max
can I use install manager to uninstall ds without deleteing the downloaded ds file and use it[the IM] to reinstall ds? all offline!?
Solved:
easy fix; uninstall 64bit and install 32bit DS.
smooth, no lag time in gui.
Just because it's only validated (tested) for 8GB doesn't mean it won't run with more. Plenty of folks running 16, 24, and even 32GB RAM in 3010 boxes.
and no Iray. If switching to the 32 bit version of DS helped it may well be that you had the iray previwe on, which is of course slow - switching the preview mode to Texture Shaded, which is what you see in the 32 bit DS, would avoid that issue.
ds was in texture shaded
wire bounding, solid bounding, wireframe, hidden line, etc..., the program is still lagging in 64bit.
the whole program; not [just]viewport window. but thanks for the suggestion.
on up side blender and gimp 64bit all work on the system.
Because you're short on RAM.
32-bit DS only requires 1GB min, as opposed to 2GB for 64-bit, but with only 2GB free for DS and any open apps (Win10 takes the other 2), it's going to bog down as you add elements to the scene because once the available RAM fills, it'll be constantly paging data to disk. Bumping your RAM up to 8GB will make EVERYTHING—not just 32- and 64-bit DS—more responsive.
It could also be a difference in the Display Optimisation setting in Edit>Preferences between the 32 and 64 bit versions.
You could just render in Blender using Mcasual's free scripts.
