Using Daz for figure/gesture sketching, which content?

I am looking to use Daz to simply pose digital models to assist with me learning figure drawing and gesture drawings. That being the simple use case can anyone recommend which content one would buy to assist with this?

A quick scan of the store and I would say "Genesis Evolution: Body Morphs" looks good but I am so new to Daz I have no idea if that is even the right direction. Thank you.

You Get the BASE Genesis1 Male and Female and Child and the BASE Genesis 2 Female and Genesis 2 Male free in the content that comes with DAZ Studio. I'm not sure more would be needed for basic posing of figures. So I'm not sure what your after fully.
Here are the BASIC content Files just to get you started... in YOUR My Account > My Products once you get DAZ Studio.

Thank you for that information. Guess I'm looking for more muscular definition and control for the models. Trying to replicate a nude model as well as possible. Thank you

Then you would want the Evo morphs and the Genesis Muscle Morphs as well. For starters anyway.

EDIT: But you should know this the Gens are only sold in the PRO figure packages if that is needed for your work, so a Male and Female Pro figure package would be needed for total figures.

Is there a FAQ or URL that explains this a bit more, I have no idea what you mean by "Gens are only sold in the PRO figure packages"

Are you saying that Evo morphs and Genesis Muscle Morphs only work on Pro figures?

Thanks for the replies to the noob questions :)

No, what he is saying is that if you want your figures to be biologically complete, ie have genitals, then you need to buy the Pro packages, such as M5/M6 pro or V5/V6 pro

DAZ Studio 4 has 2 different base figures. Well 3 actually. There is Genesis which can morph from male to female to child. Genesis 2 has the base female and base male.

Genesis is the base mesh for the Generation 5 morphs such as Victoria 5 and Micheal 5. The Genesis base comes with some basic morphs. If you wish more, you will need to purchase the Evolution morphs for Genesis. There are the head morphs and body morphs as well as a set of muscularity morphs.

If you are only interested in life drawing and need the genitals and muscularity morphs, I suggest looking at this package

    http://www.daz3d.com/daz-bundles/genesis-michael-victoria-combo-bundle

It has the V5 and M5 morphs and all the Genesis morphs as well as the gens.

Genesis 2 returns to gender split where you have a male base figure and a female base figure. The female is the base for the female morphs of Generation 6. The male is the base for the male morphs of Generation 6.

At present, there are head and body morphs for the Genesis 2 female base and male base but no specific muscle morphs for either. Most of those are part of various morphs.

If you are looking to use this simply as an artists tool, the above bundle would be a good beginning. I haven't really studied the muscularity morphs for accuracy. Movement and definition may or may not be fully anatomically correct.

Thank you Icprncss for that information, most helpful. Any disadvantages to investing in Genesis 1 when Genesis 2 is out? or any reason to jump into Genesis 2 instead?

The DAZ3D store still supports the previous generation of figures before Genesis 1 (and, with a few minor exceptions, the generation of figures before that one), so I wouldn't worry about support for Genesis 1 disappearing any time soon.

Genesis 1 is a very versatile figure. With G1, you have a fairly complete and well-tested set at hand in regards to morphs and skin-textures.
G2, being "younger", doesn't have as many add-ons and characters yet. This is especially true when it comes to male characters.

But both, G1 and G2, have advantages and disadvantages. :-)
I'm using both generations, and also the 'old' Victoria/Michael 4, which belong to the generation before G1/G2.

Depends upon how much you want to initially invest. The bundle I gave the link to would offer the most complete package for life drawing that you indicated you wanted to do. Morphs, textures and genitals were all included at one single price.

Genesis 2 is two bases that you get free but requires you to purchase head and morph packs (either singly or in bundles) for both the males and the females. If you want genitals, you would have to buy a Pro bundle for one of the adult females and the M6 Pro bundle as it is currently the only adult male morph. A much larger investment. Neither the Genesis 2 Female or Genesis 2 Male bases have muscularity morph packs as does the Genesis version. That is also another plus.

Appreciate the replies, think I will go with the suggested pack and go form there. Thank you again

You could also try checking FREE morph packs first. If you intend to have the figures as a sketching base, then I don't think buying a lot of stuff is necessary. If I were you, I would first try DieTrying's morph packs, which are free. Atrion666 has fantasy morphs as well (giants for instance, which would work for muscular... err... giants).

In order to do that, you'll have to leave this website and go to ShareCG (where you will need to set up a free account before you can download anything). Here are the links:
