Impossible environments

What is the use in making Impossible environments that kills your computer
like Harpwoods Trail, Hemlock folly, 3d collecive houses! etc...
Dont DAZ test these products?

It is so irritating just trying to render them...
and i almost never see them in the gallery.... for some reason..

Throw them out!

As far as Harpwood Trail and Hemlock Folly are concerned, I've used both.

Are you having problems just loading those environments, or is it when you render? Do you render with Iray? Have you followed the advice in the ReadMe's to set Instance Optimisation to "Memory" before render?

Same here, and my laptop is far from new...

  • Make sure, in Render Settings, that the Instance handling is set to Memory and not Speed.

Hmm. According to Daz Deals plugin, there are 33 gallery entries tagged for Harpwood Trail. They all have additional characters, vehicles, and/or animals in the render, too. I've used all the Howie Farkes environments successfully. With ANY Daz Studio scene with lots of instances, you have to set the instancing optimization correctly.

Quote from the Harpwood Trail readme file:

    "Product Notes

    • For Iray renders you must have “Instancing Optimization” set to “Memory” or you risk overloading your system's memory capacity. This setting is built into the Render Settings Preset included in the set but can be found in the Render Settings Tab."

Some further advice on taming Harpwood Trail, from Tango Alpha.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

    Hi,

I used Harpswood Trail as well. But only once.;-)
As I tried to pose a character (only positioning him correctly on the ground) it was a mess. After each change I had to wait an eternity while DAZ froze. Even changing a camera position showed the same effect.
(I'm using an AMD 12 core threadripper CPU).

With rendering I'm fine (due to enough RAM).

Want to thank you all a million for your advise - I changed to Memory and suddenly i can Render
Harpwood trails with ease - Could even cancel the render 5 times to find the right lighting and then
restart it- DAZ really has a big learning curve!!

  • For smoother navigation, "Edit->Preferences->Interface->Display Optimization" set to "Best" and using Texture shaded preview helps a lot. This might be trivial, but I discovered this only recently and was like  XD.

I have to agree with the OP, some of the environments made for DS are way to heavy on resources. It doesn't help that some design methods that work well for high end apps like maya and max are being used for DS and they kill performance.

I have a 2080ti and I cring every time i think about using Harpwoods Trail or one of the other performance killing assets in a project. I would rather spend time being creative in creating a scene rather than ttrying to find ways to optimize performance

  • Can an environment be converted to a HDRI image for a later use?

I also have a problem with 3D Collective Houses. I have 2 and I don't have a problem finding, loading or working with them. My problem is in the render. Pieces of the houses exterior turn bright pink and I've tried everything to fix them. For example, there is a single window where the frame turns pink. The shader for that piece shades ALL the window frames but this one trouble maker insists on going rogue. Which is a shame because I do like the props.

If you combine the information in these two threads, you can render your own HDRI images from Studio. For best results you may need to post process it some with Photoshop, GIMP or some other image editor.
