So Frustrating!!!

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hi guy's I'm new to DazStudio or 3d design in this matter.

I was very interested with what people can do with this software, but I can't seem to get the 1st step done...which is installing the software!!! I used DIM to install and note that I used the default installation directory path as suggested by DIM.(I use win 7)
here are my results:

1st attempt of installing: everything runs smoothly, but can't find genesis 2 (I tried looking at the library & reinstalling gen2) even though DIM said that it's already installed.

2nd attempt of installing: the program can't find genesis.dsf (or something like that)....and every item in the smart content has an exclamation mark in the thumbnail.

3rd attempt of installing: can't find genesis.dsf, smart content is empty!!! when I checked my directory it turns out Daz didn't create any library folder or Daz folder in my document.

OMG this software is so frustrating!!! how can it be so much more difficult than installing an operating system??
I want to install it manually but I don't know where the content goes and judging by what I see on the internet, installing manually is pretty hard.

If anyone can help me with my problems I'd be very grateful!!

Just to make sure: Have you installed the "Starter Essentials" for Genesis, Genesis 2 Male and Genesis 2 Female?
You will also need the "Poser CF" files of the Starter Essential packages.

As Lee said, you need to also load the 2 starter essential packages and the default lights and shaders pack at a minimum. You can also download manually if your having issues and install yourself.

    here are my results:

If you installed to the default path on Win 7 using DIM, your library is here : C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

1st attempt of installing: everything runs smoothly, but can't find genesis 2 (I tried looking at the library & reinstalling gen2) even though DIM said that it's already installed.

DIM and DAZ Studio do not 'talk' to each other. You MUST tell DAZ Studio where the content is installed to before it can find it. You need to go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, and enter the path I gave you above, as BOTH DAZ Studio AND Poser Formats. Enter that path the way it is shown, the path should end with 'My DAZ 3D Library'

2nd attempt of installing: the program can't find genesis.dsf (or something like that)....and every item in the smart content has an exclamation mark in the thumbnail.

That is most likely because there are two entries now in the database, that can be fixed, but lets get it working first.

3rd attempt of installing: can't find genesis.dsf, smart content is empty!!! when I checked my directory it turns out Daz didn't create any library folder or Daz folder in my document.

Smart Content relies on the CMS (Content Management Service) to be running. DAZ Studio creates the Library in the Public folder as shown previously

If you used DIM to install everything, then it is almost certainly in the right place, but since this is your first install using it, you MUST tell DAZ Studio where your content is installed to. If Smart Content is not working, there may be other problems, but you can always find your content in the Content Library pane assuming you tell DS where the content is.

If you cannot see the Content Library pane, go to Window > Panes (Tabs) > Content Library and it will appear, and can be docked anywhere in your UI.
