How to save an altered outfit (as a prop?)

I have an outfit that I used often. However, I do have to alter ti's surfaces each time because it loads as too glossy and I find the white to be "too white". I also like to add dForce. Once I make all these alterations, is there a way I can save it so that the next time I use it, I can skip all that work and just pop it on my character?

  • try: File>Save as>Support Assets>Scene Assets; though there may be a better way that perhaps someone will chime in with

The Scene Asset is a good choice. What Scene Assets does is to basically save a reference to the files used and then the settings applied to them. So you can save the outfit like this, then use it in whatever scenes you like. If you decide that you need to change the outfit, you can change it once, re-save the Scene Asset and all the scenes where you used that outfit will reflect your changes, you won't have to re-make them in each scene. I use Scene Assets all the time for my custom characters that I'm going to re-use often.

You could also just save it as a figure (as if it were your own asset). Jen Greenlees has a good video on Saving props properly in Daz Studio. The drawback to this method would be that if there's ever an update to the original clothes, your copy of it wouldn't be updated.

  • I don't see anything in the original post that would require saving as an asset - a wearables preset would save both chnages to the materials and the addition of a dForce modifier.

Hi Richard. I followed your advise and saved it as a wearable preset. I can find it where I saved it but when I click on it, it doesn't load in the scene. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

Did you select the items in the option dialogue, after setting the filename?

If memory serves, I selected both parts of the outfit, selected Save as "Wearable Preset", named the file and hit save.

  • That certainly should load the items, with any modifications to their materials.
