Animating - bones below hip (sitting down)
Hi,
Starting to dabble with animation for the fun of it. I dont' see a lot of resources on how to do it, but have managed to make a simple "sitting down" animation. My problem (which I think is common) is that once I do stuff like bend the knees as part of sitting down, the feet will go up, instead of the hip area and above going down (ie, simulating that the feet should stay planted on the ground). The only way around this I have found is to go to every frame of the animation and correct the Y translation of the hip which seems to kinda work but is cumbersome (and it's hard not to have the logs move around when doing this).
I have tried pinning the toes, pinning the feet, but even when you pin these they will move if you do "knee up" things, and you still don't get desired result.
Does this make sense, and if so, is there a common workflow for stuff like this?
Thanks

While the pinning is not absolute (posing is an irrestistable force, pinning is not an immovable object) what you are describing does sound more extreme. The ideal approach would be to pin the feet and move the hip down, leaving the knees to look afte themselves, though that would be likely to require some adjustment in most situations.
Doesn't mcjcasual have a script for this sort of thing? I really need to get on his site and find his animation helpers one of these days.
You can do it easily in 4.12 with the new ik chains. The issue is that once you save the scene something is lost and when you reload it you get some "ik sliding". This has been reported and hopefully will be fixed in the next release.
