Knight Champion, burned "plackard" lighting

Dear,

I'm trying to create a knight like this: https://www.daz3d.com/knight-champion-for-m4

I don't like the 3Delight result and I'm rendering with IRAY

If I change the distant light position and/or its orientation the result is always the same (see the attached image), all pieces are right (helmet, ...), but the "plackard" is burned.

Could I have a default light that deactivate my distant light ?

How con I resolve this issue ?

Thanks, Xavi

Be sure what 'base' lightign you have - check that the Headlamp is set to Off on the camera you are using for the render (if scene goes black on you, just press Ctrl-L).  Then check the Environment Mode under the Environemtn setting in Render Settings (Ctrl-Shift-R, or Render> Render Settings) to see what is set there (the default is Dome and Scene, with a default 'dome' set under Environment map).  Once you know where you are starting frm you can then get to where you want to be.

As an aside 'standard lights' in Iray need their Lumn settings jacked REALLY high to produce any decent ligght. and be sure you added them with Iray set as Render engine, else they will be in '3Delight mode' and not do a thing!  You'll know that is when you select the Light in scene tab and check the Lights pane they setting 'Photometrics' will be disabled.

    No camera in "Cameras" tab.

"Dome and Scene" configured in "Environment Mode".

    What should I change ?

    Thanks, Xavi

I'd be inclined to use a camera, you get some more options and conntrol over the render (such as depth of focus, focal length, etc.).  The main question is what do you want/need?  The 'dome' can provide both lighting and background (Draw Dome set to On/Off will toggle the visibilty of the HDRI image, the lighting will always be provided).  You may want to look at modifying the shader on the item as the conversion from 3Delight material to Iray might be ending up with it being too reflective.  That aside, I'd be inclined to eitehr go into Iray preview mode or use the Aux viewport so that, for a shot while, you can playwith the lighting and get feedback of the changes reasonably swiftly.  When doing this, rotate the dome (Dome Rotation in Render settings) to see how that works for you.  If all else fails, fall back on something as basic as a two- or three-point lighting setup usingg eitehr/or mesh lights or DS basic lights and adjustingtheir output, and if doing this, change the Environment to Scene Only.
