Iray Alpha Canvases and Instances

I've been exploring the use of Iray alpha canvases in DS and using "Create from Selection..." for the Nodes. When the current selection includes instances, the instances are not included in the masks that are rendered.

Has any body else encountered this? Is there some way to include the selected instances?
