how do I make this wedding dress white? bridal-styles-for-trumpet-dress

AI have kind of an emergency I am rendering a fantasy scene for some friends wedding that is coming up real soon. I bought this https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-trumpet-dress-for-genesis-3-and-genesis-8-female-sand this add on  ://www.daz3d.com/bridal-styles-for-trumpet-dress

a dforce dress with a wedding dress texture ad on. it says it is 3delight compatable only when I find the right texture that sooks so close to the brides actual gown it only renders in black! I can't use IRAY at all so lets not go there. I just need to know how to render a bright white dress in 3delight. if all else fails please point me to another shader product but I really think this should work. when click on any of the white texture styles it complely changes the look of the dress ie no lace in the back or front ect...

any constructive thoughts very appreciated!

  • Is it one of the textures included with the product?

Did you apply the 3DL uber shader manually after applying the texture?

  • Maybe you could bring back the original opacity map (cut out) of the lace parts after applying the new shader?

So the addon has 3dl material presets. It should be a simple matter of applying them to the dress, and apparently there are presets for a geoshell. Don't know if you have to load the shell first, then apply a material, or if it is a one click solution, I don't have the product. Did you actually testrender? It may not look good in the preview, depending on the number of transparent layers, or possibly the shader won't show in the viewport. I'm also thinking you may need to increase the ray trace depth in render settings, maybe you set it too low? Try a value of 2, 3 or maybe 4.

    thanks for your reply!

Yes I was using the textures in the product. There are many textures but each seams to be a different style of pattern like lace in the back with fully opaque elsewhere for example.. as far as colors there is a whole folder of iray shaders..that are usless to me. some of the styles render in white but they are not the ones that look like the dress I am trying to copy.

I have actually been working with daz for years but I admit I have tried to keep the textures simple. it is the color of a particular dress style texture I am trying to change. I dont see how to change teh color and leave the texture the same. Every icon I click seems to change the whole look not just the color.  I was experimenting in bringing the texture into photoshop and making it white but that seems like a long road I don't have time for. I did find in my product library a tutorial on texturing so I may look at that.

It's simpler than that load the dress and apply the texture you like. Now find a 3DL shader that is the right color of white. Change to the surfaces tab, select the dress and check the various surfaces that are part of the dress. Select each on you want that color, ctrl-click the shader. This should bring up a popup. One of the options is to either replace the images or to ignore them. Switch to ignore and accept. The dress should now be that shade of white but still have the original pattern from the texture.

Ok that sounds pretty streight forward, thanks. I will try it!  The next step for me is finding a white 3delight shader I have bought many shader packages over the years but they all seem to have multicolor patterns or glossy paint etc... any idea of a good package that I might already have? or is there a basic package I am not seeing?

I don't understand this talking about "white shaders". A shader is a piece of code that utilizes (among other things) maps for diffuse color/strength, opacity, bump, displacement, specular strength and so on. The 3DL shaders that comes with DS are found in the content library/shader presets. The three main shaders used for most products (unless custom shadrs) are the DS default shader, the OmUberSurface shader and the AoA SS shader. Most 3DL material presets use one of those shaders. If you don't want to use the 3DL presets included in the package, do what kenshaw suggested and apply the shader of choice. Set diffuse color to pure white and remove the diffuse texture, there you go. A white surface. There are no "white shaders". But what I really don't get is why you can't use the included presets? You should look into that before starting to make your own materials IMHO.

From the add on product page:

    • 25 Color Change Only Partial Surface Shader Presets
    • Textures Include
      • 35 Texture, Bump, Normal, Opacity, Layered Weight (4096 x 4096)
    • Daz Studio Iray Material Presets (.DUF)
    • Daz Studio 3Delight Material Presets (.DUF)

If the dress mats are the right shade just try applying the 3dl default shader or the Ubersurface shader.

Why? There are already 3DL presets for the product.

Exactly=) And the fact that many PAs also do it adds to the confusion.

Those 3DL presets are made by DestinysGarden, so should look good and work out of the box. If you run into trouble, it would be good to see a render, and possibly your render settings and info about your scene lighting. Good luck;)
