how many "my daz librarys" and where.

I think I did an unresolved ticket on this eons ago.
but
I have User>Bard(me)>Documents> Daz3d>studio>my daz 3d library
I have User>Public>Documents> Daz3d>studio>my daz 3d library
and in User>Public>Documents>My daz 3d library free standing
----
I think in the past I've deleted one of the daz folders (after duping them in to the same state) but it came back
----
so I did try to use an item skinbuilder for 3 the other day .. but couldn't find it
checked dim .. it said it was installed but I couldn't find it.. but I could find skinbuilder2..
finally figured out the daz was looking at one but not necessarlily the same one it had in the past
so I copied everything from the Bard one into the public one and there was a bunch that hadn't been in the public one which daz412was looking at.
(note this is only My daz recommended location install stuff on the C drive... )all the rest is in directories on an external drive.
---
at this point it looks like daz currently likes public/dz/studio/my library...
since I've copied everything how do I stop it from doing anything with the one in my named user file as opposed to the public user file and what about the My daz library folder that's standing in the public folder with the  that also has the daz/studio/my daz library...
---
Or do I jsut have to keep making sure they're all the same
---
I don't think this drive has had daz3 on it but certainly at least 4.5 and up...
no, I've never told daz where to stick it .. but it should always be sticking it in the same place right?
---
the combined folder from the two Daz3d folders located in the public folder now has 18.3g and 112,561 files while the one that was merged in only has 15.9g and 93,685 files... so the public would seem to be the larger and it is the one that the program 412 pro seems to be looking at.
the free standing my daz library as not in a daz3d/studio. folder only has 6.3g with 54,173 files.. but I guess I should merge it in with the current large one to make sure I have it all in one folder.
---
now will daz work with an alias so I just make aliases of the big My Daz library and stick an alias in each of the other places. or do I duplicate the complete one and stick it in all locations
---
just to add confusion to the mess
the my daz library in the daz folder in the public folder says it was created sunday june 25, 2017
while the my daz library in the daz folder in my bard user folder says it was created tuesday june 27 2017
and the free standing my daz library in the public folder claims friday june 30 2017 as it's birthday....
---
so are two of these illegidimit and can I disinhereit them, give them a cardboard suitcase and a $20 bill and toss them into the garbage?

  • Install Manager and DS will use the content directories they are told to. Any chnage is down to your chnaging the selection or, if you were using non-default locations, down to something else (disc error, security software, some other utility software) removing or corrupting the .ini file with the DIM paths. No content directory is mandatory, and when saving scenes and presets DS will use relative paths (location within the content directory) so as long as the files are still in the correct relative location you don't need any kind of placeholder or shortcut for the emptied locations.

these are not "content" directories" that I set up...
these are the recommended daz install folder.. which is within the Daz3d folder, which I assume the install process itself sets up.
As noted I never mess with that, I installed morphs, base figures, stuff like skinbuilders etc into that folder.
    ---
the other folders that are used like 1 iray, 2 cars, 3 clothes are chosen when I install those products on the external drive.
    ----
Anyway, the theory is I can uninstall the two that aren't in public>MyDaz 3d Library.
As shown in the picture my recommended folder is C/users/public/documents/my daz 3d library...
and I have that in my public folder users/public/documents/my daz 3d library
now note the browse ability to change that location is greyed out.. not available
    ---
however Daz is not looking there... It's looking in users/public/documents/daz 3d/my daz 3d library.
    ---
    so the questions are:
is it really going to the my daz library folder  within the daz3d folder in public because I see content in the content pane that is in that folder not the other one.
or going to the my daz 3d folder and then going on to check in the public folder for more data
because what is showing in the content library is from the "my daz library" within the daz3d folder in the public folder.
    ---
as far as I can see .. I don't have the option of telling it where the recommended content goes
so where did the extra folders come from?
    ---
does the DIM path of public/My Daz 3d library include the My daz 3d library within the public folder? Has to because that's where it's looking or it concatinating the two into the content pane.

You can't edit the current path

    ---
however Daz is not looking there... It's looking in users/public/documents/daz 3d/my daz 3d library.

That is not a path that DS will hae set itself. Its defaults are the Recommended path in DIM and the /Documents/Daz 3D/Studio/My Library/ folder in the users own Docuemnts folder - wherever that is. It also uses /Documents/Daz 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Data/ for Connect installs.

I don't follow these questions, sorry.

Just use a different install path - then you should be able to edit or delete the recommended path if you wish.

    ---
the recommended path in Dim is Users Public/documents/My daz 3d library.
I cannot change it .. as shown in the illusration the 3 dots and the button after it's name are grayed out, unlike the ones below.
    ---

DIM says it's putting stuff in a folder in documents called "my daz 3d library" but it's not, it's putting them in a folder named "my daz 3d library" within the Daz 3d folder that resides on the same level as a My Daz 3d library in the public documents folder.
    ---
with only 6g of data in the public/documents/My daz 3d library as opposed to 18g in the public/Documents/Daz 3D/My daz 3d library it's obvious the second one is the one that the program looks at and installs to.
    ---
I don't seem to have the option of changing the recommended path to Public/Documents/Daz 3d/my daz 3d library  instead of just public/documents/my daz 3d library, so it would seem that somehow Daz is going into the Daz 3D folder by default
    ---
Note I don't want to change that folder.. I just want to get rid of the multiples but if Daz is somehow jumping to the library folder within the Daz 3d folder instead of the library folder sitting next to it, Will removing the library that is named as the target, mess up the install problem even more.
    ---
Just use a different install path.. how do I change it from the recommended path (not that I want to) but it would be nice if the actual install path matched the specified one.

are saying to go in and edit the ini file in the program folder?
more joy --- the dzinstall ini is in users/bard/roaming
it specifys the "dzStudio4DefaultContent=C:/Users/Bard/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library"
so does this mean the currently the program looks here..
then looks at the content as DIM says it's installed?
    ---
it looks like the ini for the installer says public so .. I can change that after I make sure all the librarys are equal.
    ----
but then the ini files are all hidden in app roaming etc which you have to know how to make visible, because Daz doesn't want us to change them anyway..

  • In the ready to Install tab of the main window click the detaisl check box - that will show the current install destination. I think the Public Documents/Daz 3D/My Daz 3d Library is on your list, out of sight in the screen shot, and is the one you have selected.
