Hmm....this gives me several ideas to try.....cause if I can use my Mac to stage a scene and then export to Blender, rsync to my Linux box, that would be fantastic. My Linux rig does need more RAM, but it has a faster proc and an NVidia GTX 960 graphics card. DAZ Studio and Final Cut Pro are the only applications keeping me on macOS.
From version 1.4.2 up the drivers are not being created. Using the stable 1.4.1 version.
My "convert to rigify" error dialog:
@brainmuffin And it tells you exactly what you have to do. If you want to import poses and animations I'd advise mhx though that's more daz friendly.
I'm guessing you are refering to "Rigify add-on is not enabled". I enabled and tried again. Now I get a bones error. I'm gonna punt on this scene and try just a figure conversion. The environment I want to use doesn't convert well at all, so I'll probably have to export it anyway.
Small steps ;). Good luck!
Laurie
First learn crawl, then learn fly. :)
I've noticed the script now exports a dbz file.
Better compatability?
@nicstt no it's just a compressed version
Last night I bought Dreamlight's Iray light set for Stonemason's Urban Future 3. Using the Diffeomorphic exporter/importer and some admin trickery (rsync the content and scene directories), I have a render going in Studio on my Mac and Blender on my Linux box. Workflow is: Setup scene in Studio; export using Diffeomorphic; rsync files to Linux; import in Blender via Diffeomorphic.
These will be default settings, but I will post the images as soon as they are ready.
The blue drone is Blender. The yellow/orange drone is Studio.
Anyone able to confirm for them that clothes don't transfer over with the latest Blender release? 2.83.3.
I reverted to 2.83 and they are there on import.
I have that version, but haven't tried clothes in awhile. I will test.
daz studio 4.12.0.86, blender 2.83.3, latest diffeo
Just did a quick test with g3f and the full darkstorm armor and I don't seem to have any issue here. Also the g8f basic wear works fine. Do you have a specific asset that doesn't work or are they all of them ?
I had to update to Linux Mint 20, use the NVidia repo, and install Cuda and many, many supporting packages, but I finally have the GTX 960 being used for rendering in Blender 2.83.3. Images are still grainy, but render times are nearly in half. This card only has 4GB of RAM and the scene I'm rendering wouldn't fit if this was Iray. One more step along the road.
By latest Diffeo, do you mean 1.4 or 1.5?
@brainmuffin
latest development version .. Thomas is so fast to fix bugs and improve features that a "stable" version has little sense there.

edit. As for vram optimization you can use the scene optimizer addon for iray, or the simplify panel for cycles. Or resize textures yourself with xnview. Diffeo also gets a texture resizer but it needs opencv to be installed.

Ok thanks. I'll take a look at 1.5.
I have question about importing the DAZ content files. It is possible to do this again after a file has been saved in Blender format? I have an idea of using multiple machines to render my animation created in Blender (frames rendered to single files), but the paths to the DAZ files is different on the machines. When I copy the Blender file, all the materials show as purple on the second machine. I did not see this on the FAQ or the docs.
Thanks.
none at all transfered over; i was using the latest (yesterday) build of Diffeo.

Sad to hear, but also glad I'm not the only one this has happened to as I checked all the paths and everything and everything was correct.

May be there's something corrupt in the settings file. Download the latest version and try the factory settings. See if this works. If not, you may try deleting everything related to the plugin and reinstall. This includes the files and folders in appdata > roaming and the json settings file in the user folder. Hope this helps.
C:\Users\..\import-daz-settings-28x.json
C:\Users\..\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.83\scripts\addons\import_daz
Was hoping to avoid that, but will let you know.
You may try saving the blender files in the daz content folder, a "blender" subfolder will do. Then use relative paths when saving the blender files. This should work if I understand correctly your needs.
Ah...the simple method..... :-)
I was meaning on import. I've tried relative path and symbolic links. The Blender importer doesn't seem to be able to follow either. I guess I'll need to save the textures in the .blend file itself if I want to transfer them around.
Now, if I am understanding your requirements, you just need to do a File / External Data / Pack All Into .blend
As for outfits not showing up I'm short of ideas. In previous versions some diffeo settings were saved in the blender default scene as explained by Thomas, but I don't see how this could harm apart having to save both the diffeo and blender defaults. I personally use the portable (zip) version of blender so nothing is saved into the registry, I don't know if this could be the issue.
You may try with the factory settings for blender and if this doesn't work then uninstall both blender and diffeo. I am unable to reproduce the issue so this is as far as I can help I'm afraid.
- set factory settings for blender
- set factory settings for diffeo
- restart clean
p.s. Just to get more info that may help.
- does any of you use daz connect or daz central perhaps ? as diffeo only works offline.
- could you post your daz folders and diffeo folders ?
p.p.s. I may be going paranoid here but this issue appeared to someone just after daz released the daz bridge. May it be something is changed on the daz side ?
On import you have to set the daz folders in the plugin settings so you can have different daz folders. Then you have to save the scene as relative. Or pack everything as suggested by @TheMysteryIsThePoint but this will increase the scene size and may be not good depending on your needs.
Paranoia is good; this time, however, it was only after I tried 2.83.3 that I had the issue. I've not tried again yet so will let you know how it goes.
I deleted the 2.83 settings files; reinstalled 2.83.3 and imported settings from 2.82. I made copies of the Startup and User Prefs files first and all seems to be ok.
Clothes are present and accounted for.
