External References, proxys... instances...

I was a Civil Designer once upon a time, using AutoCAD, and I hope to get some helpful answers on external referenced files or make a development suggestion to include the function to DAZ studio.

In CAD we could reference in a file into the drawing we were morking on.  That file would appear as it was when first created when it was xref'd into the same coordinate space.

Q:  Does DAZ allow this type of layering to reduce system resource impact for complex scenes?

If not. I hope someone from DAZ development might look into it.

  • No. DS does have instancing, but the original instanced item must be in the scene. It also has Geometry Shells, which are instances of the original model but which can have their own materials.
