Iray: Completely Disable CPU rendering?

DiasporaDiaspora Posts: 456

I'd estimate at this point that my RTX 2080 can render a scene 50 times as fast as my i7 2600k, meaning, if iray, for whatever reason, bounces a scene from the gpu to the cpu, I would honestly prefer it to not even attempt to render at all and instead aborts the render and I try to adjust the scene.

I just had to hard reset my computer because iRay didn't want to quit after it bounced to cpu and practically locked up my computer,

in other words, cpu rendering has no place in my workflow and in cases such as the aforementioned, actually works against me...

Is there anyway to convince iray to never even attempt CPU renders?

I don't think so. You can set DS cpu affinity lower , and or make it not use all cores, then you should at least be able to tell it to piss off and stop if it drops to CPU that way. My i5 usied to pull that same crap lol, so annoying.

  • Go into the Advanced Render settings and disable the CPU option.
  • I was going to make a thread for exactly this yesterday. It's even worse for me because being forcefully switched to CPU rendering crashes my GPU driver (and crashes DAZ studio and crashes my photoshop in the background) ever since I updated to 4.12. Even with updated graphics drivers.
