3 delight Hair Rendering Issue

It's difficult for me to find hair that will render in 3delight. The entire render stops as soon as it reaches the hair. Today I downloaded a hair model that claimed to have     "Daz Studio 3Delight Material Presets (.DUF")  and matching materials for Iray and 3Delight. But I still experienced the the same issues. Not only did the render stop at the hair but the entire computer froze, couldn't even use the mouse nor cntrl alt delete nor escape. Had to do a hard shutdown and a bunch of unsaved work went into the garbage. Yes I chose RSL in materials and yes I chose 3DL  for the engine.

Some items in 3Delight are 'renowned' for being a CPU hog and foremost among those are some hair props/figures. The issue is transparency maps, often layered. You can offset some of these issue by selecting the material zones of the hair product and applying the UberHair shader to them and making sure that Raytrace and Occlusion are set Off.

  • I will try it. My 'puter has no v card rather it's integrated with CPU. After this post I tossed a spotlight in the scene and all seemed OK. Thanks

The graphics card will have no impact on 3Delight rendering

  • Good to know. The rules for rendering hair in 3D seem to change from environment to environment.

Just be aware turning off raytracing will make the hair invisible in reflective surfaces. Also, the hair will render faster at base level resolution, so if it looks good enough without using SubD, keep it that way. Using the AoA lights for lighting your scene will speed up rendering considerably, as you can set the lights to use lower sample values for selected surfaces.
