V4 .daz format clothing conversion - SOLVED

the [DS 4.5] installer [from the SDK] does insist that running versions of daz studio be closed before proceeding with the installation, so i'm feeling cautious.

it seems unlikely that it would overwrite the current stable release or the current beta.  but there may be some pointers i should be mindful of while i'm installing if i don't want to lose those, or any of their et ceteras.  please advise?

thanks!

sorry.  i don't undertstand what you're saying, richard.  maybe i'm having one of those days.

the installer for daz studio 4.5 included with the developer SDK kit will or will not overwrite the current version of studio in a default installation scenario?

    thanks,

    Rob says
If the installation path is set the same as the current General Release (you don't mention how you installed said General Release - via Install Manager is the recommended method), then yes it is likely to conflict. The 4.5.0.114 standalone installer is the General Release of that time frame. You should never install an application that (potentially) uses any files that are (potentially) in use. Doing so is asking for problems... and likely to find them.

    thank you, chohole.

guess i'll return those .daz file clothing products i picked up on sale last week.

i was thinking about installing 5.10 following richard's advice on translating .daz files into useable .duf files elsewhere in the forums.  but it doesn't sound like that'd be worth the trouble.

maybe daz should consider dropping .daz products from the store if the .daz file format is no longer supported by studio?

    maybe i'll submit a ticket.

    again, thanks--

I'd posted a question, then realised the answer was clear from the thread so I removed it. Sorry for the confusion.

Have you tried the .daz clothing in DS4.12? I thought I read that it had been fixed? (Maybe Richard knows?)

  • Although the question was about the SDK in a sense, it wasn't really a development question so i've moved the thread to the main Daz Studio discussion forum and edited the title and first post to make the context clear.

    thanks, Richard.

and thank you, MelanieL!  i'd been assuming that .daz file clothes weren't viable clothing items because RiversoftArts V4 clothing converter refused to believe that they were clothing, even when i tried forcing the conversion, and searching the forums suggested that the .daz format wasn't supported anymore.  but i hadn't bothered to try converting them manually until you suggested that the problem had been solved.

they don't load on a character.  and they may not show up in viewport because they load at world zero.  but they 'fit to' just fine with the help of a V4 clone, though it does take a while and the fitting hangs for a while about halfway through.

thanks for giving me the nudge to do what i probably should have done in the first place.
