Cannot display workspace (blank scene) upon opening DAZ Studio 4.12!

Just now, I have been having trouble trying to show the workspace/blank scene. The pop-up welcome window displays no problem, but no blank scene is displayed. I even rebooted my computer, but to no avail. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Is there a viewport tab still there?
Actually, not only does the viewport tab not show, but the entire workspace does not show, including all of the tabs, the entire blank scene. Nothing shows except for the Welcome popups that prompt the user options such as use scene builder, etc. I am afraid I might have messed up while closing, without realizing it, but I certainly hope not.
Also, on a different topic, I discovered I have the installer for DAz Studio 4.11. I may try to revert back to the 4.11 in the near future, since I do not agree with thevtimeline in 4.12.
I uninstalled DAZ Studio 4.12 and tried to reinstall the 4.11. Same problem prevails.
I wonder if it is due to a worm I got on my computer? I do remember accidentally clicking an ad on a program (4k Video Downloader, to be exact) while downloading videos through YouTube. Maybe my computer got infected or something, and a worm may have ate up a vital part of the program or something. Or maybe I went to a website that added a worm to my computer.
It looks like the only way to resolve this problem is to do a fresh reinstall of Windows 10, but I am going to have to back up all of my files first.
I don't know what I am going to do at this point. If I do a fresh reinstall of Windows 10, and I reinstall DAZ Studio 4.11, and I end up getting the same problem, I may be left no choice other than to purchase a new computer in the very near future. I really hate to forgo the program for months on end.
But one thing's for certain, I may be considering never installing 4k Video Downloader ever again as a precautionary measure. And if there is a Firefox add-on in which I can block all websites except those on a whitelist, I will go for that.
I can fully understand why people failed to respond since last night. A lot of people were likely in bed by that point.
Do you have the main menu bar (File, Edit, help etc.)?
Did you try to change the Workspace Layout?
Window, Workspace, select layout
The main menu bar is part of the workspace, and no it doesn't show.
I wonder if I accidentally clicked something in DAZ Studio that likely hid the workspace? And if so, how do I fix it? Any keyboard commands to help fix it?
What happens if you hit F3 ?
The way I see it, it looks like I may have to do a fresh reinstall of Windows 10. This is something I didn't really want to have to do, but it is a last resort.
I am thinking there may have been a file corruption of some sort. I will have to consider a fresh reinstall of Windows 10 this evening.
I wonder if I tried to save a scene subset, and I closed the program before the file was completely saved, thus causing corruption and the workspace not being able to show?
I do admit, I had so many programs running in the background, such as Firefox, 4k Video Downloader, and Firestorm (third-party Second Life viewer), at the same time I had DAZ Studio opened, and to make matters worse, I was downloading a lot of videos - game show episodes, to be exact. Thankfully, YouTube's new terms of service comes into effect soon, so there won't be anything worthy left for me to download on YouTube, as channels that have game show episodes will likely be shut down. By that point, I will have only a small number of episodes from certain series left for me to download from Dailymotion.
Do you have "Perspective view" icon? If so, try using shift + F11 (activates / deactivates Full Screen Mode).
Tried it, it works. But now I cannot see the tabs. What keyboard shortcut would I have to use in order to display the menu bar, tabs and the content library?
But at least I am on the right track.
I dont know. AFAIK "full screen mode" is the only thing in DS that can make menu bar and tabs "disappear". But if shift+F11 doesent get them back, than full screen mode is not the problem.
Right now, I am in the process of resetting my PC. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
4.12 works fine on my system, try loading 4.12 with your anti-virus turned off and the refresh your system. You may have to update your video card or use a core i7. DAZ software works really well with the right hardware.
I was having the same problem. I finally went to the main menu bar and slected (Window/workspace/Slect layout/City limits/ accept). This brought back the work space window.
Me too, I have this (see picture attached)screen and though the dropdown menus work, there's no visible assets. Any ideas how to fix it?
Here's the photo that didn't load in the previous comment:
Never mind I think I fixed it:
Steps: Window + Workspace +select layaout+City Limits!
I encounter exactly the same problem as this? how did you solve that finally?
I also had the same issue just a moment ago, so what I did was go to Window>Workspace>Select Layout on the top bar, select what workspace layout I wanted (in my case, City Limits Lite) and I got back that format. Saved me a lot of trouble that way.
I'm still having that issue but this time switcing between workspace layouts doesn't work no more. I'm starting to think that as this has been such running error/bug, there should be something more permanent solutions. For me this has been an issue ever since Daz Studio 4 came to be and every other version works somewhat and every other does not. I wish I hadn't updated to the lastest version because there came the grey screen again and this time swatching them worksplaces in hope that one of them would magically work... well... none are working and some made it even worse. Perhaps 4.21 will work again.
I ver much doubt you are having this issue. 4.20.0.2 is failing to save layouts (custom layouts or, on a clean isntalla t least, the session layout that enables it to open in the state it as in on closing). The current Public Build has a fix for that issue.
FWIW, I just had something similar to what was described here ie DS appeared to be running (I even got to save the scene through the forced close dialogue) but on opening, all I got was the splash screen then the Windows task bar minature of a white screen that would not open. The issue happened while I had a session live but was off in other programs doing other things. I even did a machine reboot, same issue.
TURNS OUT: I had somehow superminimised the DS window. And when I used the taskbar menu to maximise the window, presto. So ... a weird situation that cost me an hour of wait or experiment, but actually no underlying problem.
Hope this helps someone else
