A bit of an odd situation

edited December 1969 in New Users

Hello,

I have a bit of an odd situation on my hands. I generally continue to use my PC while things are installing in the background. Today I was installing Carrara 8.5 using the Install Manager. Just as I went to click on a link in Internet Explorer the Carrara 8.5 setup window popped up to the front and instead of clicking the link I clicked Cancel. As a result Carrara 8.5 does not work properly. I've tried to uninstall and start the installer again but it only runs about 2-3 seconds and says it's done but still no Carrara 8.5.

How do I clear this out and start over?

Thank you,
Brian Wheatley

    Hi brian71us

This is indeed a strange situation,. mainly because Carrara can be installed in various versions, EG 32 bit / 64 bit, and each would be a separate install,. into separate folders,.. so, when you say it stops installing after a few seconds,.. that's strange.

Even if you had carrara installed correctly, you could still install it again in to another folder without issues.

If you've un-installed Carrara,. then I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't be able to install it again.

Q: Are you getting any error messages while installing ?

If you're using DIM,. then it should be a straight Un-install,. then Re-Install.

Any screen caps, or more info you can post ...may help.

I myself would not use DIM not for Daz studio either, only content, programs best installed from an exe file or Mac equivelant if applicable

I'm using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) to install the software. There was no error messages, the progress bar just flashed for a couple of seconds and acted like it was done but nothing happened.

It appears that this may have been a hang up with one of the MS Visual C++ runtime installers. I decided to give it another try today and it seems to have worked.

The DIM really is okay for Program installs but I never do FULL Programs by DIM. I prefer exe installs to make sure my registry is updated properly. DIM as been known to NOT create needed ini files in the past. I'll not chance that even if I'm told it was fixed.

    Hi Brian71us

It's good to hear that you've found a solution, and that Carrara is now working for you.

Wendy,. I agree with you when it comes to applications and DIM,.(although it has got much better very quickly) but the MS installers at the end of the Carrara App installation will always throw a spanner in the works even when installing from an EXE since it 's an unexpected install agreement dialogue thingy. ....It's fine once you know about it,. but I think I cancelled it the first time I installed it too.

    Jaderail :)
