hello guys, after see some really amazing cloths and armor from "v4 and genesis 1 and 2, here a "list of products" which i would really love to see a "remake for Genesis 8, with proper "low poly count if possible ofcourse", because i really noticed which specially in cases of G1 G2 and G3 and some cases of V4 and M4 majority of the cloths and armors are too high poly count compared with today G8 cloths and armors where you can find a proper "mix and balance between high and low poly (armors and cloths sets goind from 30k to 100k at low and ofcourse some cases going around above 100k and around 500k to up 1 million at high poly it's well balanced while in the past not was but that is not really the big cases, the thing is really bring back some amazing old outfits to the today generation without need the "auto conform and others "fixs", a updated version here my list of products to see making a "come back":

https://www.daz3d.com/lux-lucis - one of the best "old fantasy armor" it's really amazing specially the really low poly count

https://www.daz3d.com/v4-ranger - another good one maybe with "less poly in the cloths the hair being the same, it' was really cool set and would be cool to see it coming back to G8

https://www.daz3d.com/the-destroyer-for-v4 - Another really cool armor which could make a come back to G8 and again with a little less poly

https://www.daz3d.com/domino-for-v4 another good v4 which i would love to see a come back in G8, with the same "low poly count".

https://www.daz3d.com/dangerous-curves another good one which would be cool to have a "come back.

https://www.daz3d.com/angeluz-fantasy-armor - another one which i loved and would be cool to see G8 updated version but ofcourse with a little less poly count being around 50 to 60k if possible.

https://www.daz3d.com/lord-of-battles-for-m4-and-hiro-4 - Another good one but this time for male.

i will add more later, but i would really love to see that ones being "remake" for G8, specially because they old "v4" way of work is a lot bugged when you try to animate  or put in some poses due to really old and bad influence, then would be cool a proper update for then.

  • Especially with the advent of the converters out now, I would seriously doubt you will see these older items being remade. The amount of time, in particular, to lower the poly count would be risky with no guarantee of sales. It would be better for you to try the converters.

i know about it but as i told some products don't really work well with the "converter" because how they where made in the past, when you convert then to G8 they just come bugged pocking throught the skin and another big problem is with pose and animations, again due to then being really old for exemple around the neck some armors when you move the head the region around the neck try to follow the head in a mess way, then would be cool to have a proper remake in some of the cases don't even need a "poly reduction" just redo the skin influence and proper fit the cloth to the G8 and update the textures.

this is the issue, the influence is a lot messed when you convert and another big issue is which the converter can't convert helms and the cloths used for V4 they appear as a different icon from the genesis making clear which they where worked in a different way which is not 100% compatible with genesis generations at last not the current one (genesis 8), they still come a little messed and bugged when converted and i'm sure it's not really fault of the converter but really the old outfit really being "old" and maybe the only real good way to fix it would be a new version for the current generations,

i'm not saying the converter is bad or not work, overal it work very well, but for some cases it is not enough to make it really proper work.

  • As a work around for full armors,  I'd just convert the armor textures to iray for the M4 or V4 version, load it on a M4 or v4, pose them,  then hide the m4 or V4, and load a V8 character and hide everything but the head and neck and hair. Place and pose accordingly and render.

Pretty sure the OP is using everything outside of DS and for game design, hence the low poly wants

yeah, for me would be to use outside daz, then that is why using the the v4 and m4 old stuffs is not really working good as it was supposed to work due to the differences between genesis 8 and old v4/m4, it would need to get the cloth pieces and redo the whole influence on it. outside daz and some work with morphs which i really don't know how to do which would be too much work to do.

here what i'm working now, it's a "modular character system for the game, it's a female character which will the player will be able to equip different parts of armor.

    here the character full

my plan is to make a full customizable character it already have all the morphs, now i just need to make the character selection screen with all morphs bars and add some more set of "armors"

then for that for the "poly count part" really too high poly count armors are terrible, like armos above 100k quadri while for "pc gaming" and few characters in screen could be fine if the player have a good pc (and above 100k i means up to max of maybe 200k which already too much for a player character, anything above that would be just crazy and would need to have peoples playing at "top tier gaming pc" to be able to "playe" with maybe middle fps), the ideal would be a poly count around 30 to 80k for the whole character counting "cloth, character skin and hair if skin and hair appear if not just really the armor and the amount of skin/hair needed anything else can be cut off from the final product, like what i did in the custom parts, some of the old v4/m4 which i posted are not really that big deal about poly count only needing a little tweak maybe, but overal i feel which if it's to use for game, currentely V4/M4 and G8 are the best options when comes to cloths/armor, while genesis 1 to 3 are the worst, specially for G2 and G3, they are the champion of high poly count, i could only find really few of sets of cloths/armor which are around under 100k and most of them easy pass the mark of 200k to even close to 1 million, which even for render is a little too much in my opnion making the user need to have a really strong pc to render that really big amount of polys.

At the beginner i was thinking which G8 was terrible since the beginner i was unluck and don't proper know how things worked here and ended buying really a lot of things which honestly i'm not using and already even deleted from my daz because they are just taking space from my HD and it make me believe which G8 was terrible for it and only o V4/M4 i would find much less friend things, but later as i learned more about i could find which actually G8 does have a lot of very friendly cloths/armors, for game, specially from daz original and some specific creators, like lady little fox or sixus media or val3dart which actually have some products inside what i'm looking for, making G8 look not that really bad as i was thinking specially after getting disappointed with G3 where the poly coint goes crazy easy in most of the products, the only real big issue in daz products so far for me really is the hairs, which are really the big problem since in this case in most of the generations they do are really high poly count specially now with the "dforce hair" which while for render is good and fine for others things is just pointles and really keep being my nightmare to find "proper hairs" for games here but luckily for me i ended finally finding some "old hairs" which are actually around what i want.

well as i told would really cool to see some really amazing "old works" from the V4/M4 making a come back to G8 to have a proper compatibility, becaus as i told while the converter tool is overal good, for a really old product with a different system it can't really make the "perfect" or close to perfect fix compatibility as it would need, it really need have a new version to have a proper work.

  • Couldn't you decimate it?

    Couldn't you decimate it?

i feel which decimate need some updates and improviments, which while it "work" for what it was made, it was too basic.

What i means is which it reduce the poly count but have a limit of how much reduce and when you do that it can break the cloth rigging if you reduce too much in many cases and another problem is which when it "reduce the poly count it turn the product into triangles from quadrs, which while in overal it is not a big deal because when you export it to unreal it will do the same, make more hard to work on the cloth before sending to unreal, i means do some basic tweaks.

Another problem of the tool is which it is really too basic, for exemple, Reallusion Character Creator also have a "decimator function but much better, because on that tool you have option to "where you want that poly reduction. like if you want just reduce the poly count of some parts of the cloth, like buttoms and things like that, it allow while decimator you have to reduce the whole piece not only the places you selected(in case of a cloth with multiple parts.

I tried to use decimator some times but as i told it aways ended making disappointed with the results which while for "render" it could be fine" for animation or game tweak it can be a little mess unless the tool get some updates to improve how it works.

  • with armours breaking everything into parented props is likely to be more accurate

and having a conformed tunic and chainmail underneath

man after see some more stunning "old armors" the more i would love to see some "remakes for G8, really, we really need a remake, because as i told while overal the converter for riversoft can be fine(for render maybe) for others stuffs and specially outside daz it is really bad, because it's just give a "generic" weight influence for the outift which in some cases can bug the outfit making some parts of it distorting wrong due to being influenced by a part of the body it was not supposed to be influenced like some spikes in the sholder near the head, that "spikes" start to be influencied by the "head like if i move the head they move too due to the bad influence and things like that, would be really, really good to have a proper update in that itens to the more "modern system used after the V4/M4 age.

i would love to be able to use that stuffs in my project or future projects:

really a lot of amazing "old outfits" which would be really perfect to have then "proper updated for todays tech, again i'm not saying which the converter from riversot is not good, but as i told compared with the converter from others genesis where things are converted in a much better and accurace way the V4/M4 is really bad even to make some poses for render like someone told even the better way to do a proper pose would be load the old V4 and put in the pose then just hidden the V4 and use the G8 model in the same pose to make it's looks like using the "outfits" due to the bad compatibility between then.
