How to Break Apart a Figure

I recently purchased a meeting room set from another site - I was specifcally wanting to use the Conference Table in another scene.

To my chagrin, i've found that whoever designed the set - built it as one figure with no seperate props (save the chairs which i'm not interested in).

The table is built as a serparate "bone?"  so it can be moved around the set - but I didn't want anything except the table. I can hide all the other "Body parts" but doing it that way adds a bunch of extra uneeded and unwanted geometry to my scene.

Anyone know how this can be done? Thanks.

Hidden bones aren't passed to the renderer, so if that's your main concern you can carry on as you are. You can, however, use the Geometry Editor to do what you want

    1. Tools>Geometry Editor
    2. Window>Panes(Tabs)>Tool Settings
    3. Click the + next to the table's group in Tool Settings
    4. Right-click in the Viewport>Geometry Selection>Invert Selection
    5. Right-click in the Viewport>Geometry Editing>Delete Selected Polygon(s)
    6. File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure/Prop Asset, enter your author name (i'd suggest using soemthing like MyName Conversions as a reminder that it isn't your own work) and give it a product name
    7. Tools>Select whichever you usually use

Load that when you want just the table, by saving as a new asset you have both the plain table and the original full room available.

(You can also just hide everything else and then export the table as OBJ, import as a new model - but then you'd have to reapply materials.)

  • Thanks! Not only was I able to get the Table separate from the figure - but I was able to use this technique to modify it and make it more useful to me!

    Thank you very much!
