  • What are your specs, esp the video card? That specific set has a ton of instances, which may cause the Iray renderer to complain if the Instancing Optimization setting (Render Settings tab - Optimization) isn't set correctly.

  • should have kept notes on how this was resolved b4 but well

    i9 3.6

    32 gb ram

    radeon rx 570

  • only happens with scenes that have sky dome

  • Skydmes should not geenrally be used in iray, at least not with HDRI lighting or distant lights, as they blcok the external light making the scene dark.

  • but they should if supplied w/scene should b a way for it to render

If you are rendering in Iray, then the skydome must be part of an Iray set. A 3Delight skydome won't work unless you apply an emissive Iray mat to it.

Check the log when you get a black render and see what it states.

The Iray setup has its own Dome/Sky settings. Can use any hdr for both light and/or backgrounds.

Use the image from the Skydome in the Iray Environment Dome/ Environment Map and then go to the scene tab and delete the skydome.

  • It has both Iray and 3Delight versions - I'm pretty sure the dome is in the 3Delight version.

I just had this issue last night on an older Stonemason set. Took me a couple of minutes of looking around at my environment settings, etc. before it dawned on me to check to see if there was a skydome. Sure enough, once I deleted the inverted salad bowl (that's how I picture it), my HDRI was working as desired. :) It's easy to overlook, even for those of us who should know better!
