Installing DAZ on new lappy; no Postgre

Hi -

I am installing DAZ 4.12 on a new lappy and using my existing external drive for content, as has been my practice. DAZ works and sees/loads the4 content in my Library, but I get an error that a valid Postgre casnnot be found, therefore rendering Smart Content useless. I've had this issue before, but can't recall how I addessed it.

Also, DAZ throws a fatal error and crashes when I use the Content Search in my content library to search for anything, though I can open scenes via the File-Open menu. This is a new issue and I can't understand what's happening.

Also. how do I tell DAZ to use primarily the GPU? Do I check both CPU and GPU in the Photoreal Devices and Interactive Devices?

Can anyone assist?

Thank you!

  • Have you installed PostgreSQL? Note that you will need to reimport metadata, or copy the database from the working system, for it to know about the installed content.

No. Where do I get it? And why do I have to reimport metadata or copy the database? My content and scene files are visible in "My Library" on my external content drive. It's just that I can't search the Content Library because DAZ crashes. Every time.

  • PostgreSQL should appear in DIM - potentially you will have four versions (32/64 bit, General Release and Public Build) - you want the version that matches your OS bit architecture, it doesn't (currently) matter whether it's the geenral release or the beta.

If you didn't install via Connect then reimporting metadata should work, except you won't get any New grouping.

    Thanks -

Interestingly, installing Postgre from the DIM seems to have solved both the Library search crash and the Smart Content display. This article was helpful, FYI:
