Daz won't load scene elements correctly
So This is a copy of a support ticket I emailed Daz earlier. Anybody out there have any suggestions?
Also-I have no idea why but all my attachments are in backwards order, even though I reuploaded them from 5 to 1, and then 1 to five.
So they are displayed in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, order, with the 3rd one showing the absence of any file called "elephant.duf" after the first save attempt.
Yeah,
So I am totally frustrated now. I have been screwing around with Daz for about a couple of weeks getting all my content organized into categories and then THIS starts happening: I load something into DAZ, I try to save the scene and it doesn't save a file at all the first time, I try to save it again and it does save a file (duf file), but then I load the scene in the middle of the load Daz tells me it can't find a file associated with the scene's character/figure, whatever you want to call it, and mostly all I get is a bunch of shaded blocks (I say mostly because I experimentally loaded a bunch of stuff into a scene, including elements from the Journeyer Scout outfit and out of all the items, ranging from animals, props and people, the only thing that loaded right were the Journeyer Scout Items). So this is happening with DAZ content that I bought and downloaded and installed using the download install manager. It's happening consistently. It's happening even though I just uninstalled Daz, all the daz content, the DIM app, and CMS. Then I emptied my trash and rebooted the computer and it STILL is happening with all YOUR content. I am stressing the YOUR content, because at first I thought it had to do with some stuff I bought at Renderosity and freebies I got from RDNA. After I got rid of all that and it still was happening with DAZ content, that it didn't happen with before, I started getting PO'd. On top of that, since I wiped DAZ and it's content off my system and then reinstalled it after reboot and trash emptying, this just makes no sense.
What is going on? All I want is to get my content to a point where I can work with it and I keep running into headache after headache.
Will you please help me out? I love how Daz has so much flexibility especially with how I can organize stuff, but it's driving me nuts because every time I think I've gotten to a point where I can work with it some new problem crops up and I have to go through all this nonsense again.
I've attached a series of sceenshots to illustrate the problem.

Hello,
first off, the problem you having is most likely due to some kind of error if the setup of content libraries. I've sceen that happen and the easiest way to corrupt a scene containing old items that needs to be auto-adapted is to move it to another machine with a different setup.
Here is a short explanation of what is happening and what you are experiencing.
When DAZ Studio loads something in Poser format (in this case a.cr2 of the elephant), it creates an autoadapted version of that Poser file for it's own usage in an internal format. That is saved in the /data folder in the folder you have set up as content folder, often ~/Documents/My Librray. Now you save the file, getting an error here indicates that the is ambiguity in how DAZ Studio find /data. Maybe you have several content folders setup and one of them points to a directory that does not exist? Anyway, when you finally saves the autoadapted file is saved in the /data it finds. When you now open it again, it doesnt find the /data in the the directory that is not existing and it therefore cannot load the autoadapted data,
Solution:
Go to DAZ Studio Content Library Tab, then use the menu in the top, and go to the Content Directory Manager.
Check the directories there against what you actually have.
That makes sense, but it doesn't answer why this was happening with Daz after a complete and total unistall/reinstall of everything. Believe me, I have checked the content library manager and everything is as it should be, especially since I reinstalled using DIM. I didn't change one thing after the reinstall through DIM and this is still occurring.
I will post screens of my library manager a little later. I have to run now. Thanks for the response so far.
DAZ Studio and DAZ Install Manager do not communicate with each other, post a screen shot of your Content Directory Manager and the Installation tab of Preferences in DIM (not sure what you meant by "my library manager').
So here are screens of my Daz, Daz-Poser and Content libraries. All this is installed exactly as the DIM installed it, without modification. Also, this install used to work, again in it's unmodified state. So why can't Daz find it's own content when loading?
What I meat by "my library manger" is the content manager. Also where the heck is the install preferences "Tab" in DIM? I don't see any tabs and there's no "preferences" option in the drop-down from the menu bar. Lastly, I just uninstalled and reinstalled DIM and Daz both. I also uninstalled CMS and wiped out the folders and emptied the trash again, because I thought maybe some old path setting I wasn't aware of was screwed up. No luck. After I reinstalled DIM, CMS, and Daz, I reinstalled ONLY the elephant figure through DIM. Same problem.
Here's the screens of my content directory manager and DIM.
Is what you said related to the error message I keep getting in the following screen? I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Ok,
So I found out how to set the path for the photoshop 3d bridge and got it installed. So now I know how that works. I've included several screens of my paths settings. However I still have the problem with scene's not loading right. On inspection of the error message when loading the elephant, I see that Daz is looking for a dsf file, which either never exists after installing the content, or is not being created on saving. Also, I still have to save 2x to get anything to save at all. The first time I save a scene, nothing gets saved. The second time I save, I get a scene, but it's paths apparently are corrupted.
Well...you don't have the proper content folders mapped in your Content Manager. Look at Totte's post to get an idea of what should be showing up there...
The little gear icon, in the upper right hand corner is your settings in the DIM.
I don't understand this at all. How is it possible that after nuking Daz off my system and only installing on single item using DIM, I wouldn't have my content installing right? I used the defaults and I didn't modify a thing!
Your Applications settings in DIM are wrong too, the path should stop at the folder the app is in.
One thing to keep in mind, reinstalling applications wont change application preference settings. If you had a bad path before and you reinstall the application, the bad configured path will still be there.
F.Y.I, settings on Mac OS X can wither be per user, stored in ~/Library/ or system wide, install in /Library/.
Just carefully look at the installation paths in DIM compared to where DAZ Studio is looking for content, and also check the configured paths.
Think I am going to have to bow out of this, don't have a Mac (I am a notorious Apple Computer Company hater) so I find it odd the none of your paths show a drive letter or name.
The OP was using Mac. For Windows, you need to dig through the lovely registry to find the preferences ;)
Since I haven't changed any prefs at all on my mac, where, exactly, would they be? I'm using snow leopard 10.6.8.
Try and look for them with Finder or other OS level tool...then, when you do find them, adjust the DS preferences accordingly.
OK, but what are they called? I don't what to search for. Is it daz.plist, or dzlibprefs, or what?
Ok, but what is the file name I'm looking for? I just nuked daz off my system entirely (or so I think) by doing a file search for everything with "daz" associated with it. I've reinstalled DIM, CMS, Daz Studio, and the Elephant. All the old file paths are still showing up again, so obviously I didn't get it all. I'll bet I still have the same problem. I need to know what name of the file is where the preferences is located. Without a name I have no idea what to scan for in finder.
~/Library/Application Support/DAZ 3D is where they are located.
~ being your home directory in Mac OS X
Thanks. I just cleared them out. I'm starting over from scratch. Nuking daz from orbit seemed to work on my macbook, but it's been especially stubborn on my desktop.
You might need to uninstall the CMS too (Content Management System). That is found where you installed it (I don't have the default location in my head, I have it in a custom location (secondary drive)
