"Draw Dome" with Beauty canvases? (Solved-ish. No idea why it was broken, but I have now fixed it.)

I currently cannot get beauty canvases to render the HDRI dome in 4.12.0.86. If Alpha is set off on the canvas, the background renders black, and if it's set on, it renders transparent. If I render with canvases off, the dome renders fine, so the Draw Dome setting is definitely working.
I am absolutely certain that I've been able to get Beauty Canvases to render the HDRI before - I still have canvases that prove it (e.g. for this piece) - so I'm sure I'm not going mad, but still cannot work out what I am doing wrong this time.

Hey Matt, I won't be home to check things for settings until later today but I rendered beauty canvases with hdri background dome on this morning without issue in 4.12.0.86 which is in the V8 thread in commons (Rune7 renders). Can you post a screenshot of your canvas section and environment sections?
Well, I have no idea what I clicked on to mess things up in that way, because I was also getting all kinds of weird things like all the instances in the scene rendering transparent, but I went and retested the old scene (which I think I probably rendered in 4.12.0.86 anyway) and it was fine, so I exported those render settings, applied them to the troublesome scene, then changed back the HDRI to the one I needed, and it now seems to be working as expected
Awesome! Glad you got it working.
Dig this post out because I'm facing the same problem: can not show the HDR background or anykind dome background in Canvas Beauty!
What I want is a render picture includes ball plus background, no cup in it, as same as other canvas tutorials shown. I want to use the cup to make a motion blur seperately, if I should render 3 pictures for this purpose, that is ridiculous.
Is this a Canvas Beauty bug in DAZ 4.16 Pro?

Checking the alpha box may or not work. Thought I was getting a transparent background but in here everything looks white?
So moving on.
