It seems that you have not downloaded the dForce starter essentials which contain the dual lobe shader. You can find them on the DAZ studio page of your download library or in DIM.

ok I got it to stop giving me THAT error, now I have another issue :( I get one of 2 kinda of renders, a very muted version of the texture... or this...
It looks like you are using the 3Delight render engine, but the figure is set up for Iray? Try switching to Iray. Also I do not see the fur, did you remove it or does it not show up?

Nothing to do with stupid. No worries. Hmm, which version of DAZ Studio is that? I have the feeling that you might not have updated in a while? Check "About DAZ Studio" in the Help menu for the version number. Also what kind of computer are you running? Is it a PC or Mac? If PC what version of Windows? Iray is only available on 64 bit systems if I recall correctly.

Well, neither the fur nor Iray are going to work in 4.5. Those features got added later at about 4.10 and 4.12. You will need to upgrade to a newer version to use the figure as intended.
if you decide to upgrade, I would either make sure that you still have the installer for your current version so that you can go back if there are System incompatibilities. Or you could install the current beta version of DS 4.12 which you can install in parallel with your current version via DIM. It's called the "public built" and if you never had one before, you need to first "purchase" it in the store (it's free).

thanks for the help, I'm a poser girl, always have been. I"m more comfortable with it lol I'm just in love with LLF's new plushies lol I had to have one
No worries. We all use whatever software we prefer and are comfortable with. Remember, if the figure doesn't work for you, you can return it within 30 days thanks to DAZ's easy return policy.

oops.... nvm. I spent a long time trying to figure out this advice, which should apply to my variation on the OP. Couldn't do it. So I spent a long time preparing a detailed question, with screenshots and all... and THEN I figured it out. Of course, I can't just delete my reply - so I'm changing it to say:
@john_antkowiak go to your product library in your account and type "starter" in the filter box. One of the things that show up when you clivck filter should be "dForce Starter Essentials". That's the one you need. See the attached screenshot from my library.
The dual lobe shader is just a shader optimized for dForce and strand based hair.

DAZ didn't natively support iRay until 4.8.
