On Saving Scenes & Subsets

When I'm building a scene and make additions or corrections I always click the Save icon as I usually do a spot render to check the positioning and shadows, etc, and also because I occasionally get a programme crash on a first spot render, particularly on very complex scenes. I also often build subsets in which one, two or more characters and/or props need to be parented for a scene as it's easier to do it as a subset rather than in a much larger scene, but if I click the Save icon the subset saves as a scene, not as a subset. I find clicking on File > Save As > Subset finicky, so is there a way of instantly saving a new subset or subset alteration without having to go to File, etc?
And why, when a subset is loaded, doesn't the Save icon automatically save it as a subset? I always hope that new DS versions will make that possible.

Because the main point of a subset is that it (by default) merges into the existing scene, so that scene (not the scene subset) is what DS knows it is working on and what it will save in response to a File>Save. Scene Subsets also don't get add to the Recent files list. You can open, rather than merge, your subset via right-click menu or File>Open.
I have no issue with opening or merging, it's just a pity I can't save a subset with a single click.
You can assign a keyboard shortcut to it. Go to Customise (F3)> Save Filters> Scene Subset. I use 1 for Prop/Asset and 2 for Scene Subset.
But you will always have to tell it what to save, that is inherent in the concept of a subset.
