Ground Shaders question

vonHobovonHobo Posts: 1,700

Hello,

I hope this is not a really stupid question, but I want to purchase the following item, and I'd like to know if I can just apply the shader to the ground of a blank scene, or if I need to create a flat plane that is ground level to apply the shader to.

https://www.daz3d.com/ground-shaders-for-daz-studio

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

You need to apply it to something with an actual mesh, so yes, create a plane primitive or load any ground object and apply the shader to it.

    Thanks Sven!

Also since it is for IRAY and has displacement maps, make sure the plane is fairly high resolution to get the best effect.

Thank you FSMCDesigns. I tried it and it worked.

Had to raise the primite plane up about +.05 Y Translate to make it solid, otherwise it was interrupted by gray blocks. Weird.

Not sure what whould cause grey bocks to appear in the plane because there was nothing in the scene and the plane was ground level. Y=0

I've shown this in the screenshots attached.

  • There is some wonkiness in the preview. did the actual render have this too?

I'm not an IRay user, but I think if you turn draw ground off the blocks will go away. Also, if you render with IRay, make sure you use the IRay material presets for best results. I can see from the screenshots that you applied the 3Delight materials. They will convert to IRay Uber on the fly but won't have optimal settings. Shaders tagged with RSL will be for 3DL and MDL will be for IRay.

Oops! My bad. I usually pick Iray materials. These are not labeled in the product so I need to look at the path when selecting one of the shaders.

I will try turning Draw Ground off to see if the blocks go away. Thanks.
