Either something is blocking the CMS, or the database was corrupted. First try starting the CMS with DS closed. If it won't start your AntiVirus or Firewall may be blocking it; if it starts but stops as soon as you launch DS, then the database is corrupt.

its not that the content manager is stoping it is very much running but wont allow me to open DS when it is running or the install manager even i have to stop the content manager from running before anything will work there is no virus protecting it i can check my fire wall but if that isnt it would you have any other suggestions as to why it is preventing daz from starting?

With DAZ Studio closed and the CMS stopped. Go to your CMS Database directory (by default this is c:\ProgramData\DAZ 3D\Content Management Service\databases). Find the ContentDB.ind file ( you may have to turn on view extensions for known file types), and rename the ContentDB.ind file to ContentDB.ind.bad

Leave the Windows Explorer window open where you can see this directory. Start the CMS. Wait 30 seconds. Start DAZ Studio. NOTE, it will APPEAR as if DAZ Studio is "hung" and not starting. Look back in the Windows Explorer window. You'll see the ContentDB.ind has been recreated and is growing. As long as it is is growing continue to wait. DAZ Studio is rebuilding the "index" for the Content DataBase. In cases with large install bases (mine for instance) this process can take a substantial amount of time. Be patient. I've seen instances where it can take HOURS. As long as the index is still growing, it has NOT failed. Just leave DAZStudio alone and don't reboot your computer, let it hibernate, etc.

If the rebuilding the index doesn't fix your issue, then the whole database is likely corrupt and we'll need to reset it and re-import metadata (if you have custom categories you'll want to back those up before you do that).

ok so i have just done this and it created the new file and got to about 5,000 KB and than stopped growing the first file was at about 6,000 KB so assuming your next step being reset it and re-import metadata so how exactly would i go about doing this and am i to repeat the previous step after resting and re-importing meta data???

I followed these instructions exactly. But there is no new ContentDB.ind file created.

What do I do now? What does this mean?

If the CMS always dies when launching DS and you need to completely replace it and the databases:

    1) Close DS and uninstall CMS.
    2) Delete all the database files. I would search your entire hard drive with "Hidden and System Files" visible, in case you have more than one set of databases.
    3) Reinstall CMS by running the installer in C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms (if you have DIM installed) or by reinstalling DS.
    4) Start DS and re-import metadata.
