G3 Geograft on G8
I don't have G8 male figures other than Michael 8 which I got for $2.99 a couple of days ago. The reason I don't have G8M characters is because I would need to buy all the add-on such as morph packs and geografts, etc., which is a very expensive exercise. I did that for G8F but I have so far managed with G3M characters without missing too much, I think.
But having M8, I decided to try to use a G3M geograft (the Meipe gens) on him. I figured that the base geometry is very similar so it might work. It does load and fits fine but the next stage is to run a script which copies the materials to the prop. This doesn't work because it keeps asking me to select G3 in the scene. I just wondered whether there is any way to make it think M8 is a G3 figure? I remember something about an ID when it came to fitting clothing between generations and wondered whether the same might work but I can't remember where to find that setting.

Maybe you are thinking of, in the scene tab select the character, then go to the scene menu > Edit > Scene Identifier?
Why not apply the materials to Genesis 3 Male too, and try the script then?
Yes - that's the one. I tried it though - doesn't help.
Good idea. I'll try that when I get home later.
Well, it almost worked, I got as far as the MAT copy which serves to blend into the torso of the figure - I loaded that on to a G3M and then copied to the surface of the geograft loaded on M8. However, that is only part of the texturing. Next is a geoshell to which is applied the texture detail. I could not figure a way to apply any texture to the shell - either directly or by copying from the G3 model. Checking the surfaces tab, the Geoshell, when applied to M8, is missing those specific zones (or whatever they are called).
I guess the vendor was careful to make sure that we buy the G8 product.
Not to worry, M8 will probably never figure in my scenes anyway. I just thought it was a shame to own him and not have the option but this is the perennial (and expensive) problem with generations of DAZ figures - having to buy the same add-ons over and over again.
