Storage question

First of all, please forgive my general lack of computer knowledge. I recently purchased a new laptop for portable use. I do most of my renders on a desktop. my laptop has limited storage, and will not accommodate my full library of content. Is it reasonable to download content to an external hard drive? Is that a functional way to proceed? What would be the best way to do this?

    Yes, that is possible  -though slower in mot cases. Yu do need to ensure that the drive always show with the same letter in Windows, as that is how DS references the path; I'm not sure how Macs work.

    I also have a Laptop for rendering and use an external USB hard drive for content, which has just been updated from 1Tb to 2TB and seems to have sped up load times because the old one was getting full.

    I've had my content on an external drive since I've started using DS many years ago, so yes, it's definitely possible.
