I haven't rendered in ages. Just got my new computer and want to dive back into the 3D world. I downloaded the latest version of Studio. Are we still using Elite Surface Shaders for V4 in this version...or is something new on the map?

This is now included in DAZ Studio - http://www.daz3d.com/subsurface-shader-base

PAs have been using it for character packs. Having used it myself it is a very good shader.

Welcome back! The new version of DAZ Studio still comes with the Elite Human Surface Shader, and it still works fine. There's also the Ubersurface shader (which is also included in DAZ Studio) which is basically the same as HumanSurface with a few extra dials and features added in. I've written up a basic tutorial on learning to use Ubersurface, plus Szark's thread has a lot of good information about it.

And there's a new one as well: the Subsurface Shader by Age of Armour. It's free also and works very well with skin and translucent sorts of materials. It's kind of different to work with, but it comes with a helpful manual, plus there's an awesome tutorial on it available.

Other skin shader options include Ubersurface2 and pwSurface2, both of which are available for purchase in the DAZ store.

Wealth of info right here! Thanks! *runs to load up Studio and have a play*

We have SSS for a long time already ... I think since pwSurface was released and since DAZ Studio 3 there's a SSS shader in the Shader Mixer example shaders: Shader Presets - Shader Mixer - Subsurface Stone. Comes with all the nice Milk, Apple, Ketchup, Cream and whatnot presets :)

...the current SSS shader though is easier to work with and renders faster than the pwSurface one.

    Studio3A was Omnifreaker's HSS

A lot of the new Gen6 and a few of the Gen5 characters and figures come with SSS shaders included which was not the case in the Gen4 days.
