Overwrote default G3F

Hi. I'm really hoping someone can help me. I have apparently fundamentally broken my Genesis 3 Female on a core level.

I created my own character using her as the base. I was trying to save her as a Content Library character, but I somehow overwrote the default G3F. Now, whenever I load the G3F base or any other character, they come in with my character's dials added to them. Even if I try and work around it by zeroing out a character and starting from there, when I go back to load the file, they always come in with my character added to them. I uninstalled and deleted all the Daz folders I could find (including the ones in AppData) and reinstalled (DS 4.12) but it's still happening.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • If this is a custom morph that sounds as if you used File>Save As>Support Assets>Morph Asset to save the morph and it had a non-xero default when you did so. Click the gear icon on its slider and set the Default and Current values to zero, then do the save again using the same names so it overwrites and it should be fine. If it was a dial-spun morph, made by setting some of the installed morphs, then you may have used File>Save As>Support Assets>Save Modified Assets which has the same net result - in that case I would use File>Save As>Shaping Preset to save your settings, then reinstall the affected morph sets.

  • So if I spun up a bunch (and I mean a bunch) of dials, are you saying that I'd have to go through each one and set it to its default before I'd be able to do this? Because that would be...excruciatingly difficult to say the least. I used a randomizer on, quite literally, hundreds of morphs.

  • reinstalling the morphs will reset the default values - but that may not be less painful.

I can zero everything out so it's back to basic G3F. I just need to know how and where to save the zeroed-out character as the default for G3F again.

Also, after I reinstalled, I still have all the dials for morphs and characters. For instance, under Genesis 3 Female > Actor > People > Real World, I still have Amber, Alouise, Arabella, etc, and they all work, too. How is that possible if I uninstalled the program and removed my Library files?

I'm kind of in the same boat. My G3F still attempts to load morphs that are not there (trouble log is some 200 lines of accessing nothing, not even a name) and G3F loads a slightly morphed g3F that shouldn't be morphed.

I've tried the dump and flush (install and reinstall via DIM) of g3 from the computer but to no avail something is still calling up those ghost morphs (like I said some of the errors don't even have names) also calling up 'currently used' in the parameters tab shows nothing, even the hidden portion under the parameters tab shows nothing. or I'm missing the one or two morphs burried under heaps of potential morphs, which may be the case.

Isn't there a script or way to create a G8/G3/G2/Genesis that reads only the morphs that are present in the...example Genesis 3 / female/ morphs folder? and have this script zero out the figure in every way possible?

I think it would help if there were some kind of hard core evassive factory reset script?  There are so many possibilities with this but in the end an evassive reset sounds like what a lot of people would like to speed up load times.

God knows I'd buy it just for the one time use!  4 minutes 45 seconds to load a base figure of G8F says there are hidden issues and like a computer, a factory reset usually fixes the problems.

Just save a character preset and use that to load the figure.

So you removed all the content? Or just the visible folders? Or something else?

Uninstalling the base won't do anything to add-on morphs, but the no names is weird. Please post a few example lines from the log.

G2F loads fine. sure the missing files or what ever is being looked at takes up zero time, what is to say these unknown errors aren't effecting the over all character in some other way?  Call me cynicle but I see most people reasoning behind this is acceptable, I see it as.. "don't mind the blinking red light on your car dashboard. as long as the car runs, you're fine."  FYI Voir Pas Mal, DD_Ambie, HSF_Fembody_01 were removed via normal means and then doublechecked and manually deleted from the data folder.  Why is Studio still looking for these?

Toon Girls might be a file but I'm not sure what or where. I've searched all over; every folder, every drive (my guess is it might be part of that 4% of files I lost due to a hard drive failure (caught it before total failure)

Stopping or removing these sort of errors I'm sure will speed things up and help in the long run.

  • Just save a character preset and use that to load the figure.

That's just it. When I load a character preset, it's as though it loads that character's morphs on top of my screwed-up G3F. It takes the now-default values of my G3F, and then combines the character preset morphs with it.

So you removed all the content? Or just the visible folders? Or something else?

I uninstalled all of Daz Studio everything, then went back and removed all the files I could find, including the My Library folders, the folders in Program Files, the folders in My Documents, and the folders in AppData. I have absolutely no idea where it's getting all of this old information from. I didn't re-install anything, yet all of the characters and their morphs are still there, and my G3F base is still screwed-up. The character preset icons don't appear in My Library, but all of their sliders are still there, and they work.

Like I said, I can zero-out the figure. That's not the problem. The problem is that it still thinks my base G3F - the defaults - are all of these crazy numbers. So when I zero it out, all of those hundreds of morphs now appear in "Currently Used" because zero is no longer their default. All the crazy numbers are. So when I load a character preset, scene file, etc, it takes the new default with all the crazy numbers, and then combines it with whatever character I'm loading.

I think what I need to know is how to take that zeroed-out G3F, and then save that over the default G3F, because that's how all this mess started in the first place. I would have already tried it except I don't know how to repeat it. Do I use File>Save As>Support Assets>Morph Asset? Do I use File>Save As>Support Assets>Save Modified Assets? Do I use File>Save As>Shaping Preset? Or do I use something else? And where is the default G3F file I should be saving over?

May be you didn't look in the public folders C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library. There are also some settings stored in the registry that you can't get rid of unless you clear the registry yourself, but these aren't about morphs so it should not be your case. You may want to do a "daz" search in your C: drive and in the registry, just to find out where is what.

But then I'd follow the advice by Richard rather than uninstalling everything.

  • I tried removing C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library, but it didn't do anything. You're right though, this isn't a registry problem. Richard's advice is just a workaround, and doesn't work. The figure still loads with the morphs set as the defaults, and files still load with the defaults added to them.

  • Near as I can figure, I went through this tutorial:

    http://www.digi-dotz.com/index.php/free-poses/tutorials/daz-studio-tutorials/47-morph-in-daz-studio

(Not the greatest tutorial, and outdated, I know.) And accidentally skipped step 11. But even zeroing out the figure and saving it as a morph asset isn't working, so I'm not sure. I'm not even sure I'm saving it properly because, again, that tutorial is outdated, so I'm not sure what Properties to check when saving.

The tutorial is not that outdated. One saves "only" the one new morph(s) that they are making. IF you saved "everything" then you have made copies and they would all be found in your own subfolders. Manually deleting them is how to get rid of them.

Also if you have any saved scenes with unfinished work in them, then said morphs or whatever are also in there and the scenes need to be deleted.

Richard's advice is not a work-a-round, it is solid IF you have done the impression of what folk have been thinking you did going by your first post. In reading over everything I have a hunch you did something else. IF you saved a certain type of figure incorrectly you have literarily recreated the figure, morphs and all. All of said character's files should be in your own subfolders making deletion easy.

Now, you say you've overwritten the main figure, did you actually get a warning that you were about to overwrite the figure? If you did, then to get a correct figure, manually download the Starter set and copy over a fresh figure object.

All your morphs should have been landing in a folder bearing your name under morphs under base under the appropriate figure under Daz 3D under data under My Library.
