Gift Card Shop wrong

I am trying to use the Gift Card that I received in the mail to get 5 free items, but when I insert the code it throws an error.

    There have been occasions when 2 emails have been sent out and 2 different codes,  only one of which works.   Check in the trash and spam fitlers to see if you have a 2nd email

    ? gift cards are for store credit normally, not free items. Coupons might be for free items which normally have to be selected from a certain group.

    If what you have is a coupon, clear the cache for the browser and sign back in. Double check to be sure the coupon is valid [i.e. not expired] and that the 5 selected items in the shopping cart are from the correct group: put the coupon in the coupon slot and apply it. If it works great, proceed to "buy" them ... if not, take a screen shot [print the computer screen and save the image via an image editor such as Paint] and that can then be sent with a ticket to Customer Service who are on holiday schedules, so be patient [I tell myself this too].
