"Render quality is very bad"

Hi...

I just wanted to make a little xmas scene, but... for some reason my Engine is rendering it absolute ugly ;(

(disclaimer: I linked the images so you dont have to load all images on the page :) mobile users friendly!)

(I create the body in pieces for finishing it in Gimp), the mainbody looks similar bad...

Normally, my Quality is fine, but for some reason now it sucks, I did play around with the light, so... is the light the problem? I did try to reproduce the lights from the image, but it seems like its not so easy :( I have absolut no idea how lights work and try my best :D

But I have the feeling the engine is simply... jumping too quick on 100% :(

I hope someone can help. I will pause the Scene and hope I get an answer 9working since 2days now on my Xmas special Q_Q.... and Xmas is soon over... grml...)

How it is build up:

(the clothes do I add via Gimp; the reason why I split the body+arm+box in 3 parts, so... he is still naked^^ , but the Present hide the sweet spot *g* )

But for some reason...

The shadow is still on the side of the light O_o... but in the image is the light from the little lamp + 2 windows on the top (not visible in the zoomed image) so... I want that its visible...

(full room: http://i.epvpimg.com/IotEdab.jpg )

I hope you people can help me to complete my Xmas setup :( (and this is just scene 1... of 3 or 5? he have to open the gift :D and wear the new clothes which are inside ^_^)

Oh and... (even if I know that when I make too much questions in one thread I get kinda most times only a answer to the main question Q_Q) why... do I have to delete a light to see the scene without? if I turn off the visibility, then the body get just full dark...

  • The figure is not on the ground (or the ground plane is moved down below y = 0 - check the Environment group in Render Settings). The headlamp appears to be on, despite th render settings (check the camera's settings) or you have another lamp in the equivalent position.

The Background is the backdrop feature, because the plane made problems with shadows.

  • Well, a backdrop isn't a real model to catch sahdows and isn't a light source - you would need to add your own lights to mimic the look of the backdrop, turn on the floor (or add primitives with the Matte option from the Advanced Iray Properties) and make sure that the camera angle matched the background photo.

And how can I increase/improve the render quality, that it not stop render it, if the image is not done, because its still full of "dirt" and not clean?

  • The Iray render stops when any ne of the convergence ration, max sampls, or max time settings in the Progressive rendering group in the Editor tab of Render Settings is met or exceeded, so to give it more room to converge you need to increase one or more of those values (Help>Trobleshooting>View Log File and look at the end just after rendering should let you see why the render is stopping).

So if I see the render is still ugly after its done, I have to check my logfiles? hmmm.... okay.

    Okay, like this:

What do I need to set, so it will get this quality? is it all based on light or can I just increase some sliders?

Unfortunately there's no short cuts, its alot about the lighting and skin surface settings the model and detail involved.

The user told me he used a other engine (I didnt knowed that excists...)

But the question is... will this 50$ be worth it, will I just have to press render or will it still need a lot more content?

  • If you don't want to adjust material settings and so on then reality/LuxRender is probably not the way to go. The same applies to Octane render.

LOL as Richard says if you aren't prepared to put a little learning in then Reality is not for you.

You talked about render cut offs, set the parameters high then just let it render until you are happy with it (you will still need to learn surfaces and lighting etc but the grain at least should go)then stop it.

I tend to set max sample very high (you can disable limits on the sliders by clicking the lilttle cog)max time to 0, render quality off and Rendering Converged Ratio to 98 .

I found the solution, disable Render quality and then it works until its done.
