partial pose

Is there a way to apply a pose to only PART of a figure?

    Yes, if you lock all nodes, then unlock the nodes you want to pose, then that's one way to do it.

    Quick way to do that? Documentation on locking seems spotty.

    V3Digitimes has some products to facilitate locking and unlocking and also to save partial poses. Using her tools is easier than doing things manually.

    Rob says
    "Hold Ctrl/Cmd while double-clicking a (native format) pose to apply it. Similar options (for Nodes, Propagation, and Transforms) to the Symmetry action in the Parameters pane option menu will be displayed and allow you to control which parts of the pose to apply."

    Well, if you don't care for the menus, you can setup hotkeys:

    Window -> Workspace -> Customize... -> Actions

    Parameters -> Lock Selected Node(s)
    Parameters -> Unlock Selected Node(s)

    (right-click) -> Change Keyboard Shortcut

    You can change it to something like Shift+L, Shift+U.

    Nah, I just didn't know how to "lock selected nodes" in the first place- like I said, kinda spotty documentation.

    Parameters Panel-dropdown menu- lock selected nodes

    This will lock all controls on the selected body parts rather than you having to lock them all individually.

    Oh and, unlike with moving, this control CAN effect multiple selected body parts and objects simultaneously.

    Most documentation on "locking" is people trying to address IK controls which don't exist in Studio so everyone is trying to figure out a work around.

    The menu commands are here:
    Edit -> Object -> Lock -> Lock Selected Node(s)
    Edit -> Object -> Lock -> Unlock Selected Node(s)

    A locked node means you can't edit its parameter properties.  Applying a pose won't change it either.

    Oh what a useful tip - thanks!

    Lets say that you want to apply pose just to the right arm of the G8F.

    1. In the scene tab select right collar node as an "starting point".

    2. Press and hold CTRL key (or CMD on Mac) and double click the pose.

    3. Pose Preset Load Option menu will appear (no need to hold CTRL/CMD any more). Set the options:

    Nodes: Selected

    Propagation: Recursive (it means that pose will apply to the right collar node (starting point; selected node) and all of its children nodes (all nodes on the right arm)).

    4. Click "Accept" and thats it, you have applyed a pose just to the right arm.

    I know this thread has been inactive a while but I am just curious if it is possible to apply a partial animation the same way?  If not as there any way to apply an animation to just one node and its children such as just one arm?
