I am having trouble with the character's skin being to glossy

Hi I am having trouble with the character's skin being to glossy.  I am using Fantasy skins, Zurie model and Zelara model.  I tried to use the option with fantasy skins to reduce the glossyness and got the following message:

"It seems that, for the figures you have selected, some of the surfaces are not Iray Uber surfaces.  Script cannot be executed.  Please make sure that all the skin, lips and nail surfaces have uber Iray as a shader.  Please apply Iray uber shader base on all skins, lips, nail surfaces or preferentially load the iray material provided with this figure."

So I am still really knew to this as I haven't used daz in long time.  It took me six hours to get to the pictures I have included and most of it was trial and error.  I tried loading the colour I wanted from the fantasy skins and still got the same message when I tried to run the script to reduce the glossyness.  How do I check if what I am using is an iray uber surfaces?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

David

To add the Iray Uber surface....

Select the figure in the Screen Tab

Go to the Surface Tab and select all the Skin surfaces. I think there is z single selection that does Kin, Nails and Eyes.

Go to the Library Tab and look for Iray Uber Shader, you can do a search for it, and double click it which will add the shader to all the surfaces that don't have it.....or should. Look at the top of the Surfaces Tab and it should say Iray Uber for the shader.

  • Hi.  I tried your instructions and am still not getting it.  The only surface tab I have is Surfaces (color).  I can't find anywhere to select the skin surfaces.  I also did a search and could not find the uber shader.  I did find something called iray shader base.  Would it be possible to post images with the instructions?  I'm still very new to daz as I haven't used it seven or eight years.

    Thanks,

    David

I'm not sure if this helps.

On the left I have opened Content Library/Shader Presets/Iray/DAZ Uber. The one you want is the !Iray Uber Base.

On the right I selected the figure in the Scene tab, which in my image is at the top. Then I selected the Surfaces Tab/Skin-Lips-Nails which selects all the figure.

Double click on the !Iray Uber Base and that will set the surfaces to Iray. You can check this at the top of the panel where it says Shader: Iray Uber. If it says anything else then all the surfaces haven't been changed.

Don't worry if you don't see these Tabs as they can be opened from the Window/Panes (Tabs) menu at the top of the main program window, and then docked wherever you want or leave them as floating windows.

Click on image for full size.

I assume you are talking about this product https://www.daz3d.com/fantasy-skins-for-genesis-8

If so, I think there must be a failure with the installation. I have that and if you have applied a material from that then it is already Iray.

Try to click on the figure, and then open the surface tab, and under the figure select 'Skin'. Then it should look something like the picture I have attached.

It might be the script that for some reason has an error.

  • Zurie and Zelara should have iray textures. Did you intentionally apply the 3Delight shaders?

If you didn't something is badly wrong somewhere.

  • Thank you everybody for all the help.  I did manage to follow the instructions with the aid of the image and applied the uber shader.  I then selected the script from the fantasy skins and rendered the file and no difference.  I'm noticed that there are glossy sliders in the surface tab and see if that helps make a difference.  I will let you know.

    Cheers, and goodnight,

    David

  • You should never need to apply the uber shader to that character.

Open a new scene and load the character. Apply the fantasy skin. If you get the error then you have something extremely mangled.

What the script does, to my understanding, is changing Dual Lope Specular Weight for the skin surfaces.

So try to look at that parameter, if that changes.
