Is my hardware not good enough? 1660TI, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, Ryzen 5 2600 6 Core Processor

I'm having multiple issues, and I'm curious if my hardware just won't cut it?

First, it takes ages to open a scene or to load a new character or other content item. If I build a very simple scene it can take upwards of 4-5 minutes to open. Even just trying to insert a plain genesis 8 figure into an empty canvas can take 45-60 seconds. I have my content stored on my SSD. None of my computer's hardware seems to be working very hard. I keep the task manager open and my CPU never tops 30%, RAM 40%, and my GPU is typically at 0-1% while loading.

Then, the real issue - denoiser. I have checked ONLY the GPU box, but when I render a scene with 2 people, the denoiser works. Add a third person and no denoiser. If I look into the log, it gives me a bunch of errors, many warnings about OptiX no longer being supported (which is unchecked), but many of the issues seem to be memory related.

Is my video card not good enough? I just got it a few weeks ago because I had an AMD card and I want to use IRay, but I can't afford a $1000 card. I assumed that this card would just work a little slower. I've updated my driver (I even uninstalled the game ready driver and went with the Studio driver).

I just tried rendering a scene and here are some errors that come up:

2019-12-31 20:05:29.966 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(305): Iray [WARNING] - IRAY:RENDER ::   1.11  IRAY   rend warn : All available GPUs failed.
2019-12-31 20:05:29.972 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(305): Iray [WARNING] - IRAY:RENDER ::   1.11  IRAY   rend warn : No devices activated. Enabling CPU fallback.
2019-12-31 20:05:29.974 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(305): Iray [WARNING] - IRAY:RENDER ::   1.11  IRAY   rend warn : Re-rendering iteration because of device failure
2019-12-31 20:05:29.974 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(305): Iray [ERROR] - IRAY:RENDER ::   1.11  IRAY   rend error: All workers failed: aborting render

Now, I'm very new to DAZ. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Anything I can do to improve my experience, or should I just return my card?

  • The Denoiser dos require the GPU, it won't work if Iray has to drop to CPU, and 6GB is not an enormous amount of memory - especially as Windows 10 caps te amount any one applcation can use (at 90% I believe). You might look at downsampling the textures, if possibly (assuming they are all more-or-less in shot then you probably don't need 4,000 pixel plus maps) - there are a couple of free scripts to do that, or there's Scene Optimiser https://www.daz3d.com/scene-optimizer . You might also look at https://www.daz3d.com/resource-saver-shaders-collection-for-iray (just looking through the promo images will give some hints on way to save memory).
