Noob question CPU render

Hi, I am new to Daz 4.12. I m trying to render a "ready to render" scene just to get the hang of teh camera composure. Everytime I try to render "slaying the dragon" Daz crashes. I have looked for the render options to change them from CPU or to GPU to see if one works better but cannot find them. They are not in the advance tab or preferences.

Can someone give me an idiots guide on where I find the settings to tick or untick CPU/GPU and advice on why it is crashing. I have tried a single figure with clothes and it crashes then as well, so it isn't the size of the scene.

  • You need to look on the side menu for a tab named "Render Settings".  If you can't see it, you can toggle this on and off from Windows > Tabs > Render Settings.

Once you've found it, at the top of Render Settings are three more tabs - Presets, Editor and Advanced.  Clicking on Advanced will let you change the "Photoreal Devices" to select GPU and/or CPU.

If you are not seeing the GPU in there, then it may be that your GPU is not a nvidia card, or is too old for this version of Daz Studio.  Might be a good idea to post your system sepcs - CPU, RAM, GPU.

In terms of the crashing, it is always best to go back to basics whyen diagnosing a fault.  Try loading Daz Studio, then click File > New.  Now click Create > New Primitive and add a sphere.  Try rendering that and see what happens.
