Low memory problem, solved

I need help as my DS is crashing because of low memory. What I did is installed Advanced System Care and cleaned and optimized my computers wich went really good and I have to say that program is very good.

But later I found that DS can't work like before, as it seems some confing files were deleted. It couldn't load scenes from before and kept crashing because of low memory. I have deinstalled Advanced system care and then reinstalled DS (version 4.7 this time, just before Iray, I used to run DS 4.12 nicely, but although it worked great DS needed long time to load on my computer).

After reinstall (I tried with versions 4.8 and 4.9 too) ... It worked but my memory still needed to be optimized in DS. I remembered what I have done few years ago to optimize memory in DS and changed settings back and made things better. Now it loads scenes from before but when rendering it crashes in bigger scenes that could render good in DS 4.12.

I can't remember all changes that I did in DS before that optimized my memory, and as I have only 2GB I need someone with experience to help me make things better that I can work as before.

Here is what I have right now, and will stay with DS 4.7 (although some scripts like Ultimate Poser Mixer doesn't work anymore) now please can someone help me to make things better and if it might be possible to optimize memory to work even better. I know I need new computer but this might be my only option for some time till then...

I use ASC and have done for years but you have to set it up the way you want it or it just cleans up everything which, as you found out, isn't always what you want.

As to the memory problems. Right click on the main computer icon on the desktop and go to advanced properties and make sure the Swap File/Virtual Memory settings haven't been changed. Set it to System Managed for whichever hard drives you want it to use. See if that makes a difference.

If you only have 2 GB of memory you really need to get more as that isn't even enough to run Windows properly.

You might just need to upgrade the RAM.

Try this to see. I have used this for quite a few years so it is quite safe :) It will tell you if you can upgrade, by how much and the type of RAM needed so you can Google for the best price.

Wow, thank You so much :) it is working again. Here are screenshots of my workspace, made with old Motorola C+ phone :) have newer Samsung but mom is using it mostly and this one is beside my tablet where I now read 3rd comic translated (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Mystery) at my desk.

I know I need new computer but for now I got 2 new mouses can be seen to the right, reinstalled older Genius Pen pad that works good with new HP Elitebook 8470p (second hand from Germany, we have it now here, i tried before to get some from GB but... probably will buy similar PC which will be ok I guess). I need new 4GB external (have one 2tb that I work with DS, and 2 with 1Tb for backup, can be seen to the left) as I like to store videos., Then after that I might get new computer PC desktop to work better with DS, if I finish my studies and get diploma, then continue to study more ...

And finaly here is screenshot made with UK.Crucial. It seems I could get 2GB more of RAM, just need to hear opinon of someone who knows a bit more as I might do it :) Thanks for help, really good to be able to work again :) and Happy New Year, finaly feels like things will be better angel

  • You can do better than 2 Gb. The question is do you want to? If this is just a stopgap then get 2 2Gb sticks. It will help, but not by much, until you get a better system.

You could buy 2 4Gb sticks or even 4 4Gb sticks but that starts getting expensive for a system that is on its last legs no matter what you do.

I was talking about this with a friend before, I think it will be best to invest in new computer then in old one. I think I will work with this one until I get a new one (I think I got it in 2006 so it might be 12 years now, though I have changed video cards 2 times and added memory).

I think I will have to cut my expenses with T-com as I am paying 45e mothly subcription for TV, Phone and internet. I am thinking that I might get a cheaper version with Internet only for 20e per month...
