Moving Content Folders

I'm running out of hard drive space, so i need to move my DAZ content onto an external drive, without breaking Connect.  But the only way of doing this I know of is to uninstall everything from Connect, then re-install everything on the new drive.  Considering how big my content directory is, that means days of re-downloading files.  Is there any way to just move the existing files and still have Connect locate and recognize them?

The most trouble-free way is to move the files and create a "Symbolic link", to the new location. It essentially tricks your computer into thinking that the old location (folder), actually exists. However, it is just a link to the actual location, which can be any physical drive you have installed. The uninstallers will also work fine this way.

    The alternative...

Move the files and change all the paths in Daz3D, for the "content manager", and in the "Daz install manager", so it knows the new locations. However, because the paths are not the same, physically, the uninstallers may not function as desired. Normally, they record the location where the files were actually installed, which will no longer exist after you move them to a new location.

How to create a symbolic link... This is just ONE way. There is a program which can do this for you, but this is the manual way, using a command window.

In my old setup, I only moved one folder in the "My Daz3D Library", which had about half the content in there. I don't recall which specific folder it was. However, it worked flawlessly, once it was done. You can get to the folder by going through the sym-link, or by going to the actual location where it is physically located on the other hard drive.
