How to use this forum - Need Tute!

Hi! Please direct me to a full, all-inclusive guide on how to use these forums. Including how to insert images (thumbs, full-sized inserts, etc). How to make forums consistantly notify us when we get a comment, or why they often don't (in my case, at least). A guide for idiots would be perfect. Thanks!

Lets start with the last question first.  Click on your username (under the avatar image / click on the gear icon (the one next to the word "message") / Click on "Edit Profile"  from the drop down list / Click on Edit Preferences   and sort out what you want to be notified of (ignore the ones about the wall,  we don't have walls)

BTW   the little star at the top right of the first post bookmarks a thread,  it turns orange when you click it to bookmark a thread

  • Hi Chohole! Just as I was sayin' - Your response didn't generate an email notice to me, either. On my Edit Preferences section, everything has been checked there for a long time now (both Email & Popup). I also always select the star at the top right, also, as well, too.

It's just that my notifications are very spotty. I can't figure out what differences there are between situations that work and those that don't.
One long-shot is, I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. My credit union recently told me that they don't support this, which is why I keep getting automatically logged out of their site. Seems unlikely here, tho. I mean, the star IS still selected...

OK, I was hoping it was something simple. So... how do I load images here? Yesterday in a forum, one image ended up as a thumb below the message, and a later image didn't show at all, except according to one viewer, he could only see it when he clicked the "quote" button in order to grab my quote. Linux again??? Magical Linux? Whatever, thanks very much for responding. Very much appreciated.

You could try filing a hekp request with tech support,   they may be able to help you

To load images you need to either attach them first, using the attach a file command under the type panel and then browsing to the image on your computer, or else you need to have them held on a gallery somewhere.

Linux I do not understand, my brother uses it but I stick with windows.

  • Thank you Chohole.
So the images that show within the text area are posted in a/the gallery! Most would be weird as gallery submissions!

The tech folk may know something re Linux. I'll wait a bit, tho. I'm overwhelmed right now with studies and other issues. For now, I'm relieved that the problem relates to technology and not my brain (lack of).

Last note fwiw: I only use Linux for going online. My Windows 10 only goes online for occasional updates. But the temptation to be 'normal' is becoming overwhelming now, as well.
    Thanks again for your advice!

The images can be linked from any website - Imgur, Photobucket, Deviant Art, etc. They do not need to be part of your "artistic" gallery here at DAZ website.

    My personal preference is Imgur.

No.  You are misunderstanding  I said either attach a document, using the attach tool or load them to a gallery.  To attach a document  click where it says Attach a file. Then Browse to where you have the image on your computer and load it

Then you can use this thumbnail to generate a URL for an in line image.

    attach image.jpg
    236 x 287 - 53K
  • Right, Chohole. I kin that. I was just thinking of how weird some images here would be as "artistic" submissions... Anyway, I like the idea you guys mention about using a gallery. I never heard of Imgur. Will check. The other day I think I just dragged my image to this space from my desktop. Then I linked it as you said, but it ended up only seen by someone when they clicked the quote button. Will try these suggestions elsewhere later.

Really, I need to blame all this on Linux, because well, it feels better. Thanks again ya all!!

Once you have attached an image as a thumnail,  you can click on the thumb to bring image up to full size
and then use the image tool  To add an inline image at larger size

Cool! Lemme try this... > OK, it's a thumb now. Image icon doesn't bring up a way to bring it here as a larger size. Maybe I need to post this first, then edit it in...

Edit: Nope. The Image icon only shows a popup with "lorem ipsum etc" and a choice to click for a URL, but my desktop has no URL, nor does this forum post... I'm lost.
OK, this is getting harder than it's worth right now. Thank you for getting me this far. I need to get to a doc appointment right now, and there are a ton of other things going on. Let's consider this solved and THANK YOU good folks for being there. This is an amazing community!

OK, that added a link to the thumb. I'm beginning to feel like this universe is playing with me.
At least this time I did get an email notice of your response! That's a first!

BTW, about the popup text that I mentioned before. I speak that language, and I disagree with it. I used to date Lorem Ipsum and she's a very nice girl.

    Edit your post.

    1) Click the link to the image in your post, or open the image you attached to the post. Copy the address of the image (you can simply copy the link you already have in your post, of course).

    2) Click on the image icon (see Chohole's post above). Ignore the Lorem Ipsum text, find the URL box in the open pop-up window and put your copied address in there. Select the green OK below.

The image will appear in your post.

Thank you watchdog79, for watching! It worked. I was missing the last step I guess...
Edit: Dang! It WAS there! He's gone now. Maybe he went out for a bite.

It's only a mix of frustration and old age. One or or both of those will end soon enough.
    Now I add this ;-)
    Got it! Now, Send.
Oops! Was I typing out loud?
