Are seperatly bought characters always fully customizable? (with shape shift etc. installed)

Given I've installed things like "Shape Shift" and "Head and Face Morphs" for Gen8, will I be able to fully customize/morph Gen8 core figures like Victoria 8 or even more individual characters like Alabama HD? Or will at least these individual characters be locked (by the artist) for changing their body/face?

Speaking of Alabama HD for Sydney 8, is Sydney 8 really mandatory for the figure to load at all (even naked), or is it only because Alabama used some assets from Sydney 8 for clothing etc. ?
So if I am only interested in Alabama's body/face, would I still need Sydney 8 ?

Thanx!

Yes, you can use morphs to customize a character, in fact that's a big part of the fun IMO.

As for G8 characters which require a "Name 8", it usually means that the "Name 8" shape is used in order to create the head and/or body shape for that character. It's not mandatory for the character to load (though you might get a warning message), but it won't give you the intended result if you don't have it.

So if you don't have Sidney, Alabama for Sidney will load but will look different from the promo images.

A note just in case, since you mentioned loading the character "even naked": Alabama is not sold with any hair or clothes you see in the promo images, what you get when you buy her is only the naked, bald character. Clothes and hair are not part of characters and are usually sold separately (or in a bundle). If a character is sold with clothes or hair (For example a character like Reine which is sold with her hair) it's clearly stated on the product page in the "what's included" section, and often mentioned in the product name.

You can use any morphs for G8 Female on any G8 Female figure - some of them will look better than others on more unique shaped figures than on basic G8F, but it's up to your personal taste whether you like the results. As far as I know it isn't possible for a character to be "locked" in any way.

Alabama for Sydney will work without Sydney 8 installed, except that

    1. She will not look exactly like the promos, because the Alabama shape depends on the Sydney one as a starting point,
    2. You may get a few warning messages about missing morphs.

I tried searching the forum to see if anyone had posted a pic of Alabama without Sydney, but could not find one (people often ask about using specific characters without the correct base, but it looks like noone did this time).

ETA: seems I spent too long typing and Leana beat me to it!

As long as they're based on one of the DAZ base figures, yes.  You have to be careful as there are a few that are stand-alones.
