Thumbnails always missing

Dear,

since 2007 , on 5 different PC's , daz 3d always has missing thumbnails. I contacted support so many times and nothing they suggested helped.

The 'main thumbnail' of some content is missing. When I click on the missing thumnail ( the so famous white thumbnail with the ' ! ' in it ) all the data is there WITH their corresponding thumbnails. They can be laoded into daz and all functions well....except...always some yhumbs missing.

Any REAl solutions to this ??

You mean the thumbnail in the Product view and in the Smart Content-Product list?

  • How are you installing?

Maybe some examples of products with missing thumbnails so we can cross-check to see if others have the same problem. Maybe a screen shot showing where you see (don't see?) the missing thumbnails.

The main thumbnail for the product that you see in the Product view and Smart Content comes from the Runtime/Support folder, if metadata is included. Sometimes it is not, most likely in older Poser formats, so you will never see one unless it gets added. I have hundreds of products that do not have thumbnail files because they do not have full metadata support, and probably never will. Thumbnails for individual files (props, poses, materials, etc.) are always in the folders with the scripts that are used to load those items. I have never heard of anyone missing those kinds of thumbnail files, except for when they are mis-named or really are missing, and that is very, very rare.

If you install with DIM, it will generate a default metadata support file to identify the product's files, which ensures that they are included for the Product in the database, but it will not create a thumbnail. If you want one, you can make it yourself, and name it exactly the same as the metadata support file, but as a .jpg. It is usually just a small version of the main promo pic.

While I was going through the thumbnails (located in Runtime\Support) for my stand-alone product tagger app found in the freebies section

    I know, shameless plug...

You have .dsa and .dsx files for all the products you installed (at least through DIM as that's the only way I install), but sometimes the images are not there for the product, or the ps version of the file will be there when the product library is looking for the DS version or visa-versa

So sometimes all it takes is renaming the image to the correct one, or downloading the image from the store page and naming to match the dsa/dsx files

  • Hmm, it seems to be ok for now , only just a few left.
I;ll can work woth this. All OK!
