Error made

I have been following the tutorials over the last few days with some success.

Today and yesterday I have been practising with the Barefoot dancer and fiery genesis. I have no problem with the use of the Actors and Wardrobes, Pose and Animate and Lights and Cameras activities. Throughout the use of these 3 activities the actor figure and environment can be seen in the viewport pane. However as soon as I switch to the Render activity, the actor and environment completely disappears from the viewport pane leaving only the "back drop" , ie. dusk sky for barefoot dancer. The bounding box is still there however.

If I then go into render settings and then click the green render tab, the resulting image is the full expected render, with the actor and environment. What I would like to know is why can't I see the actual pre-render in the viewport pane just prior to rendering under the render activity? How can I fix this? The same thing happens every time, and also with Fiery genesis, only the backdrop and bounding box remains.

A few days ago I did not have this problem so obviously I have made an error here , but I don't know what it is or how I did it?

Can you help please?

The camera you are looking through, where is that pointing?

The camera chosen is Camera 1, this is shown also in the Scene pane. However it is the same in any view, perspective or Camera 1.

This is bugging me, because up to now I have been quite successful with this. Am I supposed to be able to see the faint outline of a Camera pointing at the actor? But why has the environment also disappeared? The bounding box and the scene window still show the actor and environment being there on top of the back drop. I'm stymied!

Why I asked is because in theory if a camera suddenly points in the wrong direction, you won't see anything. What background color do you have set? I'm asking because if you have black background and then low lights in the render camera everything looks black.

Ok, thanks for the reply. This is what I have done after your question about which background I am using. I selected Hollywood Boulevard background (I thought I had selected this already this already) Now, surprise, surprise the pre- render appears as it should in the view pane when using the render activity, and I can clearly see the outline of the camera on the left side of the view port pane pointing at the actors front-right side.

Is this what you were referring to, because it seemed to work?

I don't believe I would have done this without your suggestion, thank you!

We've all done those mistakes one time or another, or as we say here in Sweden "You learn from your mistakes said the hedgehog and dismounted the dandy brush" ;-)

    Great you're back on track!
