Jpegs rendering with black background instead of gray.

It used to be that, with no background selected, the background of jpegs would auto-fill with viewport gray. Now they fill in with solid black. Is there a way to restore gray as the default? I'm aware that I can turn background on, and select a gray background manually, but I'm trying to avoid having to do this.

Easiest fix I suppose, would be to save a scene with the grey backround, and use it as a default scene. You can also set your render settings up in the default scene as well(I always used to forget to turn on my canvases, default scene ended that). To do the default scene setup, you save the scene somewhere you can browse to easily, then go to edit > preferences > scene tab, and click on the "load file: none" box, pick your scene. Do the same in the startup tab "load file :none" box. Then be sure to hit the apply and accept button.
Sorry if I am ELI5ing it a bit, I am making it a good answer for even a newbie that might search the question in the future lol.
Save as .png or .tif as they have alpha channels so you can makethe background ay color you in your image/paint program.
