any thoughts on Visual Menus?

Has anyone used bitwelder's  Visual Menus system?  https://www.daz3d.com/visualmenus

If so, are you able to make multiple menus so you can have quick access to various commands or content?

Can you display more than one menu on screen at a time?

Overall thoughts about how useful script is in improving/speeding up workflow?

Thanks.

Lots of great features; it is very useable. The promised updates haven't arrived.

and this for version 1.1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlODLYP7G2Q&feature=youtu.be

It is a critical tool for me.

Yes.  You can nest menus till you can't keep track of them.

Can you display more than one menu on screen at a time?

No.  But you can make your own UIs in QT.  Easy & fun to do.  Can scale them as you like, and change background opcaity.

If you are a Visual person, you will wonder how you ever navigated DS without it.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks @Saxa - SD .  I've used similar tools in After Effects, and indeed would never go back to the regular menu options -= that's why this product caught my eye and I was wondering how well it had been implemented.

Can you explain what you meant by this:  But you can make your own UIs in QT.

  • Very well implemented.

VM comes with UI presets to get you started.

With DAZ Studio comes QT designer so you can make your own.  Easy to import into VM pop-up window in DS.

Here's 2 screenshots showing (1) some presets and (2) one of my own menus made in QT waiting to have options added.  Make the boxes different sizes or whatever.  You are limited to push buttons. But you can add almost anything.

  • Thanks. Made the purchase earlier with a DAZ half off coupon. Putting together a new computer with nice gpu and processor and am eager to re-learn DAZ Studio, since looks like significant improvements have been made over last 2-3 years (though I do still mourn the neglect of Carrara and wish DAZ wouldn't leave that to die).  But new computer should let me render animations in DAZ much more quickly than it did several years ago, so off to do some learning and will make these menus a part of my workflow,

I think its biggest failing is that a menu can't be increased in size.

It is also possible to crash Studio using the keyboard shortcuts.

But I use it all the time.

How do you mean?  I scale the menus.

Must be luck of the draw?  Or a setup issue? Or environement issue.    After months of daily intense use have never once crashed VM with shortcuts to open menus.  IS it possible your shortcuts conflict with other Win shortcuts?

Thanks. .....will make these menus a part of my workflow,

    Enjoy!

This is interesting, I had forgotten about it.

I've already set my own shortcut and menus (I use ManFriday's Bookmark tool too), but I'll consider it :)

I've looked at it but haven't bought it. It looks great for new people or those with an excess of space, but everything is pretty accessible with the city limits settings if you know where everything is.

Not scaling, but increasing the number of buttons on a pre-existing menu.

    Nope.

Out of curiosity. Use a shortcut, then use the same shortcut again immediately or almost so; basically before the VM window opens.

I use shortcuts from preference as it's just quicker, so I'm quick with 'em.

Had that feeling too when I started.  Which is why switched to making own UI menu options and pre-planning everything.  Works 95% of the time i think. smiley

Just tried it.  My menu pops up so fast I don't even have time to press a 2nd time.

Even with an Iray preview running it's that fast.

    Hello,

I bought VisualMenus almost two years ago but just got around to launching it today after struggling through trying to better organize/make sense of Das Studio's content, categories and products organization.  Earlier today, I read about VisualMenus in another thread.  I'm missing something on how to add content to a VisualMenus button. Bitwelder's overview video states that content available to add to a VisualMenus button needs to be selected in the Smart Content pane and Content Library panel before launching VisualMenus but the content that I have selected in Smart Content doesn't appear in the Content Items tab. Only the VisualMenus icon appears. Any help to get me on the path to adding content to a VisualMenus button will be greatly appreciated.

Responded in the other thread. Don't post the same question in multiple forum threads, please.
