Is there a reliable way to find content?

Medium time DAZ user with a newbie question:

Is there a reliable way to find content purchased in the DAZ store?

Especially with older products I don't know if it's going to show up in My DAZ 3D Library or Poser Content... I often can't tell if it's a figure, prop, scene, or something else...

Just downloaded Armory Stands Vol 3 and Morphing Tree Trunk... there must be a reliable way to find them quickliy, no?

Usually the readme can tell you where to look for them, but for older products (and especially those which were added to the store after the RDNA merger) there's not always a readme online. There might be one included in the zip for those.

Both products you listed are props in Posre format, as the product page mentions pp2.

A few pointers for poser-format content:

    • cr2 (or crz for the compressed format) are rigged items with moving parts, be it actual figures, sets with moving parts, conforming clothing or hair.... They're all in the "Figures" library (which for some reason corresponds to the "characters" folder inside Runtime/Libraries)
    • pp2 are simple objects without moving parts, listed in the "Props" library
    • hr2 are hairs but not conforming ones, it's for props hair parented to the head. They have their own "Hair" library, for historical reasons
    • pz2 are presets, listed in the "Poses" library for historical reasons. They can be poses, materials, characters...
    • cm2 are camera presets, listed in the "Cameras" library
    • lt2 are light presets, listed in the "Lights" library.
    • mt5 and mc6 are material presets for the poser material room, and listed in "Materials" library.
    • pz3 are poser scene files

I just keep Install Manager open while working. The "Show File List"  button is a life-saver, when it comes to finding where files are stored.

How do you find your content you did not install with DIM?  I like use Windows explorer & do a search for items in the daz content folder directories.  Windows explore is fast. it will list all items with the same name of the content you put in for our search term. giving you a greater range of options for finding your content item your looking for including the texture and .obj files that associated that items name in your search term..

Give it a try you'll be surprised how easy windows explorer search bar works for finding content in your daz studio directories or hard drives .. its much faster then hunt and peck ..looking for items. especially if you looking for content you bought from renderosity or other places. that were not installed with Dim
