Adding my own content

I create objects in Wings.  I import it to Daz.  To get it working, I need to...

  1. Scale it
  2. Apply textures
    1. select Iray texture
    2. import bitmaps for diffuse, bump, normal
    3. apply bitmaps to the surface
    4. There are 15 surfaces in some objects, repeat as needed

Now, I'd like to have a procedure to add it to my library - fully textured and scaled.  Like right-click, Add to library.

What I ABSOLUTELY do NOT want is some crap with 4 hours of exporting the object, creating an icon, zipping it all up with a complex directory structure, and then reimporting it only to realize I can't find it ANYWHERE in the Content or Smart Content.

  • You shouldn't need to scale it if you have, or create, a suitable preset for the OBJ import dialogie (assuming everythng is modelled to the same scale in WIngs). The presets are in the middle of the options dialogue, the save new bitton is next to them.

You can just use the + button at the bottom of the folder* you want to use in the Content Library pane under Daz Studio Formats, then select Scene Subset and check your item(s). That will give a file that will load the content, but the models will be embedded in the scene so large, frequently used items will waste a certain amount of space. A more efficient way to proceed is File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure/Prop Asset, which will prompt for a preset for loading the asset (which you can save to the folder of your choice) and then an options dialogue in which you select the content directory to use* and enter names for Author and Product - the resulting asset files will then be in the content directory under /Data/Author/Product/ (for back up purposes, you don't load them from there but from the preset)

    * Not the Daz Connect folder, though  -that isn't a real folder on disc
