Just curious if there is a way to place an image from a .jpg file onto a primitive plane.
I want to project the image as a backdrop for the scene.
I added the primitive, stood it upright, and stretched it to the size I need. Then I went to Surfaces pane, but I don't see where to load an image.
Or perhaps, am I approaching this the wrong way?

You’re in the right place. Just click the little triangle next to “base color”, go up to browse, and select your image.
Wow! Thanks for the fast reply Gordig. It worked!
I use this method quite frequently. You'll also want to change the glossiness color to black and add the same image file to the emission shader and change that color to white (you'll need to play with the luminance). Here's an example of a scene that was lit with HDRI, but uses a 2D image on a plane for a background. The trick is getting the lighting to match up.
Thank you Melissa.
I will use your method if I need to keep the image on the plane in the scene for the final render. Good advice!
Right now I'm just using the image as reference and then deleting the primitive plane prior to render, so lighting is not an issue in my case.
That's a beautiful render by the way.![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
It's definitely a neat trick when I'm going for a simple scene and am feeling too lazy to do a full background, haha.
Yes it is definitely a neat trick!
I even like the blurriness of it because it gives a sense of depth to your scene. Like they are standing on Broadway or somewhere with lots of lights. Bravo!
You can also add the image to the emission channel and add a small amout of emission so that you get skys that glow etc... Here is an example:
That's incredible art! Thanks for the advice.
Now I just have to figure out what the emmissive channel is. Learning so much!![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)

This is a great thread and is exactly the question I'm trying to answer, but with an odd twist.
I have the image I want to place on my plane saved as both JPG and TIF. But when I browse to the directory, it does not let me select either image. It's acting like it doesn't recognize the files as JPG or TIF.
MacOS Catalina. Original image created in PhotoShop and saved as both JPG and TIF. Filename extensions are correct for the respective image type.
is there a step I missed to get Daz Studio to recognize the image?
Good Day All,
I'm having trouble getting an "image on a primitive plane" as described in this thread. Of note, I'm unable to find a "Surfaces" pane but I can find the "Surfaces (color)" pane. Are they the same pane? If not, where might I locate the "Surfaces" pane? If they are different, what is my next step?
Thanks in advance for any help!
