File|Open dialogue has no preview image, just shows an icon.

Have I done something wrong, or is DS genuinely unable to show the file preview PNG file in the file open dialogue (Win7 & Win10)?

I am surprised that the icon display is not over-ridden with a .png preview of the .duf file in the open dialogue window on my PC. As a pretty mediocre programmer I couldn't get a file preview with a program of mine where I wanted it, so I actually wrote my own file open dialogue that does the job, and depending on the file extension it either reads the binary file for an embedded thumbnail, or looks for a different .bmp thumbnail when it finds an ascii file and displays that.

Just wondering if a file association is broken on my PC (in which case what can I do about it?) or whether DS simply doesn't have the facility to do it. If it doesn't, maybe it could be considered.

Regards,

Richard

    just asking the obvious

    is this in DAZ studio?

is there an icon png with the duf?

    is it all dufs?

have you set DAZ studio as your default program for open with?

Windows explorer won't show duf files but I think P3DO explorer can make it, I am unsure not tried

Yep, it is in DS. I save the files in a 'Scenes' directory that is not in any of the paths for content libraries. When the .duf file is saved, a .png preview has been automatically saved with all the scenes I have. When opening scenes that aren't in the recently opened scenes list, I have to use the standard Windows Dialogue, which is where the .png thumbnail would be useful, but it doesn't appear due to the .duf filter in the extensions filter.

I am just surprised that the png is not displayed where it exists. Yes, DS does open the .duf files as the default application.

    Richard.

and I don't know any of the programmer voodoo blush

maybe a folder permissions thing just wildly guessing

  • There is nothing to tell Windows to show the PNG instead of the default .duf icon, so it doesn't Some applications are, or have been, able to implement a way to have custom icons but as I recall in the past (XP I think) the PSIcon.dll extension used by Photoshop could cause issues so I can understan it not being widely done.

  • So, it isn't an installation issue, just DS not having its own customized dialogue box. OK, thought it might be different.
