Poke through Post Smooth Modifier

Why do I get poke through in my renders after I use a smooth modifier on an object?
Isn't that what it is supposed to prevent?
I'm using DAZ Studio Pro 4.6
The model is V4 with V4 clothing.
See poke through in rear and ankles

Does it actually do that in a full render?
I've noticed that with a spot render, it doesn't wait for the smoothing to be calculated before rendering, but with a full render, it does.
Yes.
It looks like that in every render.
I gave up on that outfit and tried the trusty V4 Body suit.
This is what it does (See attached)
This is with smooth modifier applied and I hid all the other body parts because they all poke through.

Do you a displacement map added to the figure?
The smoothing modifier smooths the item, which may well cause poke-through. The collision detection should deal with that but you have to set the collision target and have it turned on - by default it is off in a newly added smoothing modifier.
I found the solution!
Apparently if the poke through is caused by displacement maps the push modifier is the solution.
So I apply a push modifier to the object and set it to .1, it defaults at 1.00 which is way too high,
you should never need more than .2
In any case so with that set, it puts a distance between the geometry.
In the case where items overlap the smooth modifier can be applied to deal with that.
See my example, where I have used a push modifier on both a body suit and boots, and then applied a smooth modifier on the boots to deal with poke through from the body suit.
Thanks!

Another item.
Displacement...
I noticed on some seems I was seeing the skin poking through so I changed the minimum displacement from -0.10 to 0
This eliminated all of those instances.

So after going around and setting all my textures Minimum Displacement values to possitive numbers.
I rendered this.
YAY!

I keep thinking I should re-write and re-publish my primer on dealing with poke through. But there have been so many changes in the tools that we have (it was written for DS 1.3) that much of my original advice would sound silly given the new things we can do. And I'm not as well versed on some of the newer toolsets either.
Thanks!
Yes, I was not aware of the push and smooth modifier until a few days ago, I was amazed how much I was doing without them, but when you have no other options, they are priceless.
